I'm trying to imagine how German Chancellor Friedrich Merz must feel right now. It was supposed to be his day in the spotlight - he kept his cool, he played the statesman... Then Musk and Trump got in a playground brawl and that's all that will be written about today

Was a big day for Cologne's bomb squad

BBC versus AFP reporting on the glacier collapse in Switzerland: BBC (rightly) makes clear the obvious link between climate change and the increasing number of these events. Meanwhile AFP repeats a tired line we've heard 1,000 times 'we can't say for sure' - completely ignoring reality.

Yes I use Google Maps all the time, but I wouldn't really recommend it in all cases in Germany. For late night public transport in particular it's given me plenty of headaches, and it's accuracy for bus stops (even in Berlin) is haphazard. www.thelocal.de/20250530/why...

Proud to have been part of the team bringing this one to print today.

According to this, living in Germany is pretty much the epitome of real freedom.

Recently heard that running a single AI query takes about 16oz of water - so like a small water bottle full.

One thing I like about Berlin is the juxtaposition of nature and industry, touches of wilderness to be found in the middle of urban sprawl. Goes for a jog, sees a fox, then nearly gets hit by a car blasting German rap kind of thing.

I don’t think anyone had ‘Merz fails to be elected Chancellor’ on their bingo card www.thelocal.de/20250506/bre...

Yeah no, it’s definitely happening www.thelocal.de/20250505/cho...

Said just about every American who ever moved to a European city

These are some nice mushrooms. 🍄 #fungifriends

The DPA reprinted a line from DJ Mag suggesting that Tresor club in Berlin was set to close this April (reprinted in Tagesspiegel and other German outlets). But a spokesperson for Tresor confirmed to me that was misinformation. Techno-heads in Berlin, your precious Vault is safe for now

S&P 500 dropping like summer sea ice in the Arctic Ocean…

Unfortunately named restaurant spotted in Berlin

Fixed it for you, @Bild.

I read just about every piece of Tesla related news so far this year so you don’t have to 😉 Here’s my take on how it’s going, for Grist:

Asking your journalist friends for advice:

www.europeancorrespondent.com/r/can-electr... Wrote a lil explainer on bi-directional charging for electric vehicles and how that could help balance wind and solar heavy energy grids for The European Correspondent this week.

Mentions of this report on Tesla being ‘dead in Germany’ are thru the roof right now. Interestingly, as if the brand hadn’t picked enough of a fight in the country, it’s also coming after its employees’ sick pay.

Newcomers in Germany often complain about shops being closed on Sundays, but I’ve come to like the fact that if I go out for a walk on Sunday morning there’s very few cars on the streets - the sound of usual city traffic is noticeably muted.

Can we make sure to get this in front of any sensible political leaders ASAP?

Just weeks after JD Vance went on a long tirade against Europe’s out of control “censorship”

I wonder how many “Tell me five things you did this week!” Emails they’re gonna get

Here’s a good fun fact for next time someone argues against all the space that windmills and solar panels take up.

Brilliant explanation on why the growing ‘Tesla takedown’ movement matters. But it also has the best sentence description of Musk I’ve read: “…unelected, ketamine-happy…subsidy–guzzling, deadbeat dad—leading a bunch of scythe-wielding mini-me shitposters through innards of the federal government…”

I did a Berlin housing crisis awareness run solo today. Pls send thoughts and prayers, and more importantly leads on good affordable housing opportunities.

Tesla sales in Germany and much of Europe have been PLUMMETING since Musk publicly endorsed the AfD.
