The final paragraph of this article is chilling.

The only guarantee in the oil market is volatility. Rachel Reeves framing of home-grown energy as a national security issue in this week's CSR remains entirely correct. Its mad that other parties cannot see that.

Great to see a Chancellor today so comfortable talking about climate investment as central to national security and central to improving people's lives. Bodes well for Labour taking on misplaced political headwinds in the near future - and we know this is what the public want to see!

'Real wages have grown more in the first 10 months of this Labour government than in the first 10 years of the Conservative government' is a strong line from Reeves. May not feel like it yet, but there is some good news out there.

Great examples here of labour councillors up and down the country showing real ambition in improving their local communities. And cleaning up their local air in the process.

Come to Ireland, famed throughout the world for its unfriendly and unhelpful people. But don’t worry, here’s an alarming avatar so you won’t have to interact with them.

Not only is this a great policy, its also a great communication tool. The public simply do not understand why, if climate is so important, we are currently building new houses without solar panels. This announcement shows a joined-up government taking climate seriously. Great news!

"Bloody brilliant!"

Last night, LCEF and the Co-operative Party launched our new report, Power in Our Communities, with Energy Secretary Ed Miliband MP. 🌱 The report showcases how we can give local people a real stake in our clean energy future—while also building lasting climate consensus within our communities.

Absolutely thrilled to have been part of this report and to be able to shout so loudly about community owned energy - transforming not only where our energy comes from but how the whole system works, and for who. Download the report and have a read, link below!

This week, we'll be releasing a new report with @lcefuk.bsky.social on community energy and the incredible power it has to make our communities an active part of the net-zero transition.

I love when NYT mini makes up a phrase to fit the grid and then acts as though its common parlance.

🧵Today's energy price cap news is extremely welcome, and will see the average family save around £130 per year on their energy bills. This is the beginning of a trend that should see energy prices fall for good, as we move away from volatile gas markets by adopting clean power.

1,553 days until the next UK general election. Perhaps Labour MPs should spend at least some of them (the next 1000, say?) arguing and thinking about things other than electoral strategy?

There’s some good points in this piece - Labour/Reform voters exist and matter in Red Wall esp - but there’s a lot it gets wrong too IMO. For starters, Labour to LD/Green defectors exist in marginals too. Labour’s coalition is more complicated than just one swing group in one battleground!

We closed Abbeville Road in Clapham to cars for a few hours today and something truly radical and transformative happened. We saw a community grow. People came out to chat, laugh, listen, gossip, eat, drink and share. Just proves that streets are for people not just for cars.

Great news that the GBE Act has received Royal Ascent. And that Great British Energy can now get on with boosting our energy sector and securing our energy security.

Investment like this is extremely welcome As well as cutting bills and accelerating net zero, it enables local communities to control their own power supply and to use this resource to invest in their neighbourhoods

Thrilled to see fantastic new trustees join the Labour Climate and Environment Forum, strengthening our work in driving climate ambition across the Labour movement 🙌🏾💚🌹 A warm welcome to Labour titans @metecoban92.bsky.social, Joe Fortune, @sueferns.bsky.social, Ryan Jude & Lord McNicol 👏🏾💚🌹

Honoured to have such respected and experienced individuals joining LCEF's trustee board, showcasing the wide range of support that climate and environmental ambition has from all parts of the labour movement. Looking forward to working with - and being held to account by - my new bosses!

Great piece from @lukemurphy.bsky.social on how Labour can appeal to a "British public that overwhelmingly recognises the threat that the climate crisis poses to their communities and their livelihood, and who want to see action taken".

The Planning and Infrastructure Bill is a rare opportunity to update planning regs so that they work for both growth and nature. Polly showing here exactly how the Government can do both.

Great article today from @pollybillington.bsky.social making the case that by designing planning systems that deliver for both nature and growth, we can create long term prosperity for our communities. incm.pub/43cez9c

Me too. Mea culpa.

Where Robert Prevost, the new US-born Pope, stands on climate change: "Prevost is outspoken about the need for urgent action on climate change" collegeofcardinalsreport.com/evidence/car...

Absolutely brilliant from @jamesrball.com Deep breaths all round methinks.

Remember this one. In five years, or ten, or twenty. When we're a weird, dirty, backward nation that still sets fire to stuff, and places like China and India start to ask us why.

This is a striking stat.

To be clear, the centre ground on net zero is that the public are broadly supportive - even if there is some conditionality to that support. The idea that net zero is a source of significant electoral discomfort for Labour is a zombie political fact.

If not already, this should be on everyone's reading list today to provide vital context for the local results rolling in.

This seems like a very important graph - and thread - for understanding the results tonight and tomorrow. More than anything else local and by-elections are about differential turnout. Reform vote is very amped up right now, or seemingly anyway.

Great article by @TomHayes in the New Statesman today that cuts through the noise and speaks to what the British people want. www.newstatesman.com/spotlight/su...

In an interesting week for net zero debate, Tom has done a great job of cutting through the noise and focussing on what the British public really care about: energy security, cheaper energy, and job growth in their communities. Labour's clean energy mission is well-placed to deliver all three.

Extremely clear which side of the debate on net zero that Andy Burnham is on. www.businessgreen.com/news/4412906...

Stellar thread from Steve full of polling goodness on Labour's electoral coalition. One of main messages is that net zero ambition from Lab is all upside. It keeps the progressives onside without losing Reform-curious who don't mind either way. Similarly, being seen as anti-climate is all downside.

They like Farage but don't share his hostility to net zero. And they worry about the whole, you know, possible racism thing *uptalk for this bit*. Illuminating new research from @steveakehurst.bsky.social on "Reform-curious" Labour voters and a host of policy dilemmas www.ft.com/content/deb2...

Really good read this from @acjsissons.bsky.social on how the government should respond to Trump’s tariffs. And it’s spot on about net zero and climate action. acjsissons.medium.com/what-now-for...

They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made. -FS Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, published 4/10/1925.

Fascinating thread on the social and politicqa factors that shape a buy british campaign.

"Overall, the direction of travel to a fully electric market has remained the same and that is the stability that everybody needs right now." ✍️ LCEF Director @paulmcnamee.bsky.social on today's changes to the EV Mandate.

This is mind-blowing. An immediate cure for any sense of imposter syndrome.

I have tariffed the penguins that are on Heard Island and which you were probably assuming did not export goods forgive me they were taking advantage of us so cunning and so cold

Lovely to host supporters of LCEF at our essay launch this week. The Return of Spring shows how environmentalism has always been at the root of the labour movement. Because both are, basically, about creating better conditions for communities, at the local, national and global level.

Trump's tariffs are destabilising the global economy, and will impact UK manufacturers, particularly the car industry. A trade deal to avoid tariffs will be helpful, but the government can go further by supporting these industries to build the tech of the future

A formative childhood memory. RIP Val Kilmer.
