www.theguardian.com/commentisfre... "Britain is not America, not yet. But only if we make the effort to keep it that way."

Was Pete Hegseth appointed by Trump "because of his skin colour? Or his skill? We’ll never know, but always doubt."

Excellent thread.

So true. (Anti)social Platforms tied to a fully complicit mainstream media are destroying democracy.

I was wondering whether including DEI in my grants was the right thing to do when God left me a sign

I hiked up to the snow in the San Gorgonio Wilderness area today. There was a wildfire here five years ago and still no sign of recovery of the pine trees; not a single sapling in sight. Apparently, the fire was so hot, the pine cones from which new growth would start were all burned.

For football supporters of a certain age 🤣

A small voice against the Trumpians of Beverly Hills (there are many).

When a journal editor writes "I hope to provide you with an update in the next week" how long should one wait before emailing and asking for an update?

If this person sat next to you on a bus or train and started ranting about Bruce Springsteen in this way, you would get up and move to a different seat. In the United States, we have him the nuclear codes.

I would normally pose the question "how is this legal", but in today's USA keeping within the bounds of the law seems optional.

BlueSky has not evolved into the Twitter replacement that I had hoped. I am not sure how their algorithms work, but content from those I follow often does not appear in my feed (and presumably vice versa).

Ironically, whenever this street/area is brought up in discussion the argument is that it would never work anywhere else because Copenhagen is so very different.

Looking forward to speaking at this event about freedom of science in Berlin in July! anyone in the area then - would be great to see you! www.hertie-school.org/en/events/ev...

Population wide supplementation as a public health intervention is not new and has yielded incredible health benefits through the years don't let the misguided attacks on fluoridated water fool you. Why do you think iodide is added to table salt? Since we are intent of forgetting history here is a 🧵

This thread reminded me of the work of my late father as a medic and epidemiologist in Papua New Guinea in the 1960's. In the highlands of PNG endemic goitre was very common and in some remote valleys endemic cretinism was also common. The Jimi Valley was one such area. 1/n

A clear, detailed account of the seemingly endless lawlessness of Trump and his chums. It's long, but there's a lot of Tumpian egregiousness to get through. Almost all his major actions have been illegal, yet his devotees in Congress do not care. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Keir Starmer and the Labour government continue to disappoint. Can we not get any politicians who are under the spell of big monied interests?

"..the most lubricated infiltration.."

RFK may have said this (but probably did not). I have just watched a video where Sen Kane likened RFK's stated views to recommending people to swim etc.
