Same, buddy, same.

I believe this means the sun will set over the entirety of the British Empire tonight for the first time in several hundred years. Chagos is the dot below India on this map. Sunset in the Pitcairns (dot in the Pacific) will happen ~40 minutes before sunrise in Akrotiri and Dhekelia (dot on Cyprus).

Yikes on bikes.

Perhaps my most obvious but chilling observation from #Cannes2025 is that everything is a horror film, and horror films are everything

They should turn it into a reality show. America's Next Joe Rogan.

There is a course I am participating in right now and the speaker is showing off right now a generative AI tool (oof) that creates bedtime stories (eek!) and the stories are based on the Hero's Journey. I am dead, buried and decased.

Man, this past week has really brought out the Rogue One hater in me. At least with TRoS everyone agrees that it's bad!

Oh no! Not the writer of reshoots of a heavily re-edited film telling that the remnants of some long gone version of the movie wer meant to be better obfuscated!

This is not quite what it looks like — it’s easy for organizations to piggyback on the word “Cannes” to make it sound to people on the outside as if the festival is giving the award, when it’s a marketing thing for a movie someone wants to sell. variety.com/2025/film/gl...

I watched Following, Christopher Nolan's first feature film, and it was quite nice! A more raw and less refined predecessor to Memento (they share a lot of plot points). And, I can't not talk how it was shot my uni's film society's equipment, which is a fun detail. It's on the Criterion Channel.

Well, I've just watched The Last Picture Show and wow, Cliris Leachman. What a masterful performance from her. The rest of the movie, though... Eh. Let's just say I like American Graffiti better.

Remember when LFL shut down the dancing Star Wars characters at Disneyland because they were concerned about brand image?

THANK YOU! I was gonna blast another Star Wars-related thinkpiece about it but this post essentially does this for me. Screenwriting is about thematic work, characterization, tone, creating a groundwork for story's structure.

Youssef Chahine's 1958 masterpiece CAIRO STATION will have a @criterion.bsky.social release and is available for pre-order. Congratulations to Joseph Fahim, who has spent his career working to boost awareness of the long, rich history of Arab cinema. www.criterion.com/films/32722-...

I can take a KFC but a golf course? Just meters away from the pyramids of Giza? Ew. Gross. Disgusting. Unnatural. Ban golf.

Man, was "Utrata równowagi" (Loss of Balance) good. Acting schools in Poland have a serious abuse issue and this movie is a story of one such abusive lecturer tormenting a student that is about to graduate, as they are both working on a diploma play of Macbeth.

There are only 50,000 signatures missing, so this is very doable. If you have an EU citizenship, all you need to sign is your ID number.

You (boring): "Why didn't they include this scene?" Someone else (also boring): "Editing isn't about just including all the scenes. It's a dance where a film's carefully sculpted and where a scene looks necessary from one place but needs to be cut from another." Me (cool): "They should've cut more."

I don't know what it says about me but this is what convinced me to rewatch Rogue One (after I watch S2 in the future).

Can Terrence Malick and Martin Scorsese hurry up with their Jesus films? I need some good Jesus cinema to offset the nonsense Gibson is about to deliver.

George Lucas is 81. He is sometimes criticised for his disinterest in directing actors. However, he’s still come a long way since THX 1138 where he had 3 men on hand to prod Robert Duvall with sticks whenever Lucas felt he wasn’t giving his best.

This is all I hear with these corporate mandates

Star Wars out of context:
