Spark and Tether by Lilian Zenzi An excellent and solid story. ο»ΏSacheri has a strong character voice that never wavers through all the events. The core is his relationship with Jin and the deep mystery they're investigating. There's a strong friendship that plays a πŸͺπŸ“šπŸ’™ #specfic #sff πŸŒˆπŸ“š πŸŒˆπŸš€πŸ’« 1/

Had a thought today, about the 'trope focused' marketing that I see more of now. Part of it, afaik, is a crossover from fanfic labelling. But I'm wondering if part of it too is to help establish position in some of the more nebulous genres like 'romantasy' or 'cozy fantasy' 1/ πŸͺπŸ“šπŸ’™ πŸ’¬πŸ“š

Bookshops & Bonedust by Travis Baldree is peak reader rep for me, feels like all the conversations i've ever had about books.

Johnathan Joss died a hero. He was murdered for being gay, he went out protecting his trans husband from being executed. They burned down their home and killed their pets and then they murdered Joss while trying to murder his husband. The New York times can barely muster "fatally shot." I hate this.

Cosy SFF: A Comparison Of Definitions What it says on the tin. A comparison of different cosy SFF definitions and what overlaps for people. Bit outdated already, which is supercool! dovelynnwriter.mediu... You can support more research on Patreon: www.patreon.com/c/do...

TIL that my partner has been taping the screen door shut so our cats do not try to escape onto our very non cat safe balcony.

is it time to bust out my "bigfoot is bears" photo collection again? if your mental image of a bear is a thick-furred, fat glossy male bear in autumn, you're probably not prepared for how weird their proportions can look in spring, or when walking upright, like they frequently do.

I've been thinking about this a lot as I've been working on the book and would love to hear what others think. What, to you, defines someone as a 'witch'* versus say, a mage? *this is for fiction, not about wicca

I don't do pride reads. I have a fairly high percentage of queer lit in my TBR, so some will be read this month. And also in July. And August. You get the point. We exist all year long, and I read a book nearly every day, so I'll be sharing plenty regardless.

Some of the bookish community has never fallen off a ladder and had to be in a leg brace for months, and it shows. It wasn't even a library ladder! (real thing that happened, but joking about the meme)

Urban fantasy, and it's cousins paranormal romance, contemporary fantasy ect. Magic colliding with the real world. Don't want to copy from previous one Ilona Andrews - Innkeeper Chronicles is a mix of scifi and fantasy and has a great mix of aliens. #Tropes101

Yay there's a tropes tag! Anyone who follows me will know it's spec fic - leaning towards fantasy, but I've been trying to get into more scifi again Some favorites - LM Bujold, (Vorkosigan, Penric), Seanan McGuire (October Daye Series), Wen Spencer ( Elfhome )

@mtamblyn.bsky.social‬ is there a place to leave feedback for Kobo? The chatbot tells me to go to a feedback page that doesn't exist (or least there is no link anywhere I can find, including the site map), and Kobo doesn't seem to have a company account bsky. I'm not on the other places.

Boosting in case folks haven't seen it. Two things. 1. I still have questions (of course I do). 2. I want to reiterate that Kobo is handling this EXACTLY as they should be. They updated the ToS. They announced it. Actual humans reply to emails. The CEO is responding. All within *days*.

Heart of the Covenant by S. L. Dove Cooper An anthology of stories with a slice of life focus. Hedriar's a storyteller and her confidence grows a lot over it. The first friends she makes are long lasting. There's moments of homesickness, and long distance calls back home to catch up. 1/

Always fascinating, because of course there are ones I've read that I don't mentally box in as cozy. And others that are cozy to me, but I would recommend as cozy with an *. And honestly, the more times I've re-read a book, the cozier it is for me because usually that means it's a comfort read.

hey friends! i'm curious about your favorite works of nonfiction (criticism, theory, etc) about speculative fiction β€” are there any books or articles on genre that you recommend?

A new era begins

Am I just really missing something or does bookshop.org have no way to filter or sort? I wanted to test them out but finding a lower price book I don't have is very hard with the unsorted infinite scroll.

Not gonna be too specific because it feels too much like a dunk: One where they spent 3 books trying to stop an unspecified end of the world only to unknowingly help a plague spread in the last 3 pages. 1/2

Sonny, true love is the greatest thing in the world - except for a nice DLT - dragon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich, where the dragon is nice and lean and the tomatoes are ripe

Ahh! Follow up to Divine Service which is a lovely book.
