Wow. It's almost like successive governments are more interested in making the rich richer and the poor poorer. More stunning work from Zack.

open.substack.com/pub/ptbr/p/n... I decided to write about one of my days out in the forests and mountains on the western edges of Tokyo. I don't know why, but here it is. It features a few photos and recordings for the enthusiasts among you. #birds

This Israeli Telegram post explains how the IDF uses starvation and looting as a weapon better than I ever could (Source: t.me/arabworld301...)

Japanese green pheasant (キジ) seen locally in Tokyo today. (Unlike the pheasants I used to see in England, this native is the national bird and wasn't introduced to be shot at by toffs.) #birds

A common kestrel on the lookout under a Tokyo bridge yesterday. #birds

Interesting exchange with National Rejoin March @marchforrejoin.bsky.social who just blocked me for taking them to task on UK free zones which in their current form prevent the UK from rejoining the EU. They have not done their homework.

Update on #Cornwall Council's planned felling of 3 lovely mature trees in #Falmouth. They're still pressing ahead with this, despite residents' protests & the Town Council's opposition. They now plan to destroy these trees tomorrow morning. We still hope to save them. www.change.org/p/stop-the-f...

Announcing now - 61 shows / 7 reissued albums / 7 official shirts. All are on sale tomorrow. stereolab.ffm.to/2lpreissues

In the Nogawa river, a crow watches a grey heron carrying away a bullfrog it has recently caught. Fifty minutes later, I might be imagining I can see a frog in the heron's throat. #birds

While the BBC and Sky do their "Hamas say Israel has violated the ceasefire, Israel says it hasn't" thing, Aljazeera does actual journalism... #BrokenMedia

Every time I look at these two Oriental greenfinches I can't help seeing the foot of the bird above as a raised right hand of the bird below. #birds

A common reed bunting at Tokyoko Yacho Koen yesterday. #birds

A few days ago I was lucky enough to see a northern goshawk as it flew above the Nogawa (Tokyo) being chased by a gang of crows. The pigeon was not so lucky. #birds

Just like the Tories, Labour has put capital before governance. If it were the other way around, wage share and profit share would be evenly distributed, people would have better healthcare and better public services, and young people could afford to buy a house. 1/2

A common kingfisher along the Nogawa this morning. Kingfishers are often great for photographing because they stay perfectly still, but they leave in a flash, as this one is just beginning to do. #birds

The Tories' biggest donor - actually the biggest donor in British politics AFAIK - seems to have changed his name following racist comments about Diane Abbott. And he's given himself a fake knighthood, apparently... Via Private Eye

Mick Lynch "Nigel Farage is a racist." RT if Mick is right.

Saw a brown-eared bulbul having persimmon for breakfast this morning. #birds

The Government Media Office in Gaza says the number of journalists killed in Gaza is now 191 after the death of Mamdouh Quneita in al-Ahli Arab Hospital. 🔴 LIVE updates ⤵️

I wondered why this grey heron was half-submerged in the Nogawa, with part of its neck peculiarly sticking out above the surface. It seems it had just eaten a large fish (probably a carp in this river) and was now going through various procedures in the process of swallowing it. #birds

Richard Dawson being as special as usual. Funny video too. Apart from the excellent window display scenes, look out for the man slipping on the escalator and another one blowing smoke, both in time with the brilliantly off-kilter clarinet. youtu.be/hwLXaYn9KKI?...

It would be great if, just for once, we had a government focused more on protecting people than enforcement. These "crackdowns" have minimal overall impact on majority of businesses affected. They specifically hit workers, who often are already being exploited 1/6 www.standard.co.uk/news/politic...

I suppose this little egret was injured, was it? I went back later to see if was still in this odd position, but it wasn't there, so I'm tentatively hopeful it was alright. #birds

A common sandpiper at the edge of the Tamagawa today, contemplating life. #birds

Today's most interesting sighting was this bull-headed shrike, with a skink. #birds

Still the greatest interview exchange in the history of rock and roll. Bob Dylan. Playboy Magazine. March 1966.

In 2015, Carlisle United got hit by flooding. The insurance paid for the damage, but the insurance premiums went through the roof. Around 120,000 matches cancelled last season as pitches unplayable. Jenny's amendments make climate change part of new Football Regulators remit.

Fish on Friday? Must be a Catholic egret. Appropriately I saw this one at lunchtime. Fairly sure it's a great egret, though it could be an intermediate egret. #birds #fishonfriday

Happy #WorldPhilosophyDay! Today we launch our new Personal Identity game, adapted from an exhibit at the Philosophy Museum in Milan. Hope you enjoy it! What makes you the same person you were yesterday? Your brain, your body, or your mind? Or something else altogether? sites.google.com/vie...
