Tonight I was hoping for a Verrucaria macrostoma #lichen from the playground trip this morning but got surprised - I think this is Acarospora cervina.

I am sitting on the playground looking after the kids who are enjoying themselves. Simultaneously looking for #lichen with the binoculars for a change. Mites running around the Protoparmelopsis just like the kids under the "pirate ship". Feels different to observing with the 10x. Can recommend. 5*

I was working on the pebble #lichen yesterday. The steps come more easily now, but still I had not documented all features I needed and had to come back to it today. Provisionally I would like to call this Verrucaria viridula - with a little doubt and an alternative thought. Please follow me:

Ah, #misidentifyinglichen. I just got notice that this #lichen is rather Verrucaria polysticta. One clue was in the op (3rd image). In Placopyrenium fuscellum perithecia arise in the photosynthetic units, in V. polysticta between. Also in surface view perithecia are connected by black lines here.

Here we go again. Pebble #lichen. Maybe tonight maybe tomorrow.

Today I picked up a pebble on campus with a Verrucaria #lichen on it. Because I like pain and suffering I tried to ID it to species. Tag along if you like. We will be using LGBI3(31) Verrucariales: Verrucariaceae britishlichensociety.org.uk/sites/defaul... starting at 39 (page 8 of the pdf) 1/x

Who would enjoy an attempt to ID the Verrucaria #lichen on a pebble found on campus grounds?

Placopyrenium fuscellum #lichen - also one new to me from the last excursion.

Mystery liverwort Totally lacking suspects here. Any suggestions appreciated. My initial suspect was Plagiochila, but I can't find any good fits lacking teeth. Leaves are a bit Diplophyllum-ey, but the lack of underleaves isn't.

Pebble partially immersed and covered in a Verrucaria lichen. Not the one I am investigating at the moment but from the same site.

Snail on #lichen and algae covered rock

Is attempting to ID Verrucaria #lichen a waste of time? I don't know, I just try my best. Tonight I dedicated some time to yesterdays pebble and its second Verrucaria - judging from section and spores definitely a second species! I think this is V. muralis which I (believe to have) found before.

Pebble immersed in discontinuous grassland and treaded ground: It is covered with a (or at least one) Verrucaria sp. #lichen. Today I worked on the prominent episubstratic one with brown, flaking thallus. My tenative ID for tonight is Verrucaria fuscoatroides.

Sometimes you need to be creative. What am I doing here (wrong guesses only?) #lichens-live
