I must be missing something this morning, haven't Council Tax bills gone up by pretty close to the maximum every year anyway? The news is acting like they haven't.

Zia Yusuf praised for Reform role But totally out of his depth on local government finances in DOGE This is an absurd totally false claim about Kent County Council spending 87m a year. Yusuf only needed to ask anyone at KCC to avoid such a foolish error (/deliberate misrepresentation for clicks)

🚨🚨 "Unlike the Russians, who could withdraw from the battlefield and go home at any time, the Ukrainians cannot withdraw from the battlefield. If they do, they will lose their civilization, their language, and their freedom." Excellent work by @anneapplebaum.bsky.social on #ukrainian resilience:

But look at the flags!

Connolly pleaded guilty to inciting racial hatred and was sentenced fairly according to the Sentencing Council guidelines. The judge took into account mitigating and aggravating factors such as how there was serious violent unrest nationally, in a very volatile environment.

But, Angela Rayner something something something...

The Tories' border checks required us in Portsmouth to build this building in the port, and risked traffic backing up to the motorway. It might not be needed after all now. All down to the failure and uncertainty of the previous govt.

No aid has reached the starving people of Palestine. Israeli forces continue to block access despite the imminent risk of literally mass mass death of babies & children. Today we MUST make our voices heard - come if you can at 6PM to Parliament square & #fastforgaza #r4today

🔴‘Keir Starmer’s EU Deal Is Far Better Than the Media Is Telling You’ Much more needs to be done to repair the damage of Brexit, but this is a welcome step in the right direction, argues the Director of the Independent Commission on UK-EU Relations bylinetimes.com/2025/05/20/k...

Interesting thread on the judge's report into the appeal of Lucy Connolly. The appeal seemed to be based on her not realising what she was pleading guilty for, but this was dismissed by the judge as not being credible.

Listening to Brexiters is to see a group of people who haven't changed as the world/country around them has. That's Starmer's gamble. Then as now, they continue not to reckon with a simple truth: we still need the EU more than they need us. New from me goodallandgoodluck.substack.com/p/brexiters-...

Simple truth is that you can never out-Farage Farage. They will always go further, it will never be enough. You'll just get dragged further and further towards their position. You'll just lose the majority of people who don't want that kind of politics, for no gain.

I did an update on who is seeking asylum in the UK 🧐 Are they all men? 🤔 What countries do they come from? 🤨 Why are only half of Afghans being recognised as refugees? www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsOc...

Navarro doesn't understand the deal they signed. The text reads: "The United Kingdom and the United States affirm that imported food and agricultural goods must comply with the importing country’s sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) standards and other mutually agreed standards."

Jenkyns v misleading here. France houses 100,000+ asylum-seekers *not* in tents. People in tents have been refused housing because asylum claims finally refused UK does the same. asylumineurope.org/reports/coun...

Marking 100 days of Trump, my chat earlier today with @mrjamesob.bsky.social on the UK's @lbc.co.uk 🎧: audioboom.com/posts/871270...

“86% oppose the United States trying to take control of Canada. Eighty percent oppose Trump serving a third term, 76% oppose trying to take control of Greenland and 66% oppose sending U.S. citizens to foreign prisons.” abcnews.go.com/Politics/ame...

"Despite his boasting, President Trump is one of the worst dealmakers on the international stage. His impatience and ill-founded self-belief make him an easy victim" A true and scathing characterisation of the world's worst dealmaker from John in his letter to the Times.

This is very concerning

Don't overlook this: Trump is leaving Abrego Garcia to rot in a foreign gulag even though the admin can always bring him back and *retry him for deportation in a lawful way.* That they won't do this shows their case against him is nonsense. New piece from me: newrepublic.com/article/1939...

Stats like this are always interesting when they come up. The public massively overestimates the percentage of migration that is due to asylum. If you watched the news you'd think it was the majority.

Just over a week ago Nigel Farage was proposing we accept chlorinated chicken to get a US trade deal. (What happened to dressing up in a Barbour standing next to tractors?) Yesterday morning he was touting Brexit as the reason the UK had a 10% tariff.... and by end-of-day the EU was also on...10%.

60 Minutes found no criminal record for 75% of the Venezuelan migrants the U.S. sent to a mega-prison in El Salvador. https://cbsn.ws/4lC4Vp5

Not only does this thread show how little they know about how anything works, but also how little they want to find anything out and learn from people who do know.

If only

Good point, whatever happened to the WTO's most favoured nation rule?

They've been ripping off the United States for long enough!

The former ambassador to Denmark for the United States, Rufus Gifford, posted this video on his Facebook account: Ht: @hpsc24.bsky.social

Once again we see how incredibly thin skinned they are.

I wonder how long it will be before we start seeing asylum claims from US citizens

It is almost up there with the Four Seasons Total Landscaping press conference fiasco.

Totally agree. They are just so angry, inadequate, rude, ignorant, thin skinned, you could go on.

It wasn't mentioned in the Chancellor's speech, but the Spring Statement papers contain a major suite of anti-tax avoidance proposals, probably the toughest ever introduced. Thread:
