#FitzPOTW @peterfitz1.bsky.social Billionaire act of the week

😘

Tks, Eric. Just a little quiet over here for me, and lacking the hard news edge, no? Don't you find that?

I think most Australians are like me: we very much know who Prime Minister Keir Starmer is - him and Macron are leaders of the Free World - but have no clue about the Opposition Leader, yet.

My thoughts, EXACTLY, Samuel!

THanks indeed.

The rule of thumb among Labor ministers, I am told, is "Ignore what's on the front pages. Get the right policy."

🐨 AUSTRALIAN ELECTION SPECIAL: How The Democracy Sausage Is Made 🌭 What the recent reelection of @albomp.bsky.social can teach politicians in the UK. @sturdyalex.bsky.social talks to legend, @peterfitz1.bsky.social. Superb! 🍏 podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/q... 🎧 open.spotify.com/episode/4Z3m...

🎧 This was a fabulously enjoyable, high-level introduction to Australian politics and their recent elections, even though “you’ve barely let @peterfitz1.bsky.social get a word in edgeways,” @sturdyalex.bsky.social! 👏😆 🇺🇸 “Chaos on roller skates”!!! 🤣 🇦🇺 #Politics 🗳️ #Podcasts 📻

I think, to the North, that is what you are frequently known as - and most affectionately~!

Tks indeed, Alex.

Fabulous celebration of a champion of public transport by @peterfitz1.bsky.social. Problem with being prematurely right! @m1ngthemerciless.bsky.social www.smh.com.au/national/nsw...

“I’ve never been called a “lefty-luvvie” before!” Interesting chat between Greg Combet and @peterfitz1.bsky.social www.smh.com.au/national/gre...

I'm never quite sure what the Commonwealth is, beyond - with a few exceptions - a British Empire Alumni Club? America qualifies on that count, but not right now with current barking mad leadership?

#FitzPOTW @peterfitz1.bsky.social Action of the week ...... US protests AGAINST Trump/Musk administration actions Bernie & AOC got 34,000 to a rally in Denver (Australian media is NOT covering these protests, but they are growing bigger & bigger. And are NATIONAL. Esp in Republican areas.)

Well said. @peterfitz1.bsky.social

Au contraire. The further we move into this century, the more it is obvious that Australia needs to forge an independent path.

Tks, very much worth reading, y'all. Different country, same nonsense: huge expenditure on stadiums pays for itself. Complete and utter bollocks.

Lovely!

Have we paid?

The Budget should include a massive and historic increase in funding for research. Not only is it needed, but we really should be poaching ever medical and scientific researcher from the US we can. Absolutely perfect timing.

I think we have put a downpayment of $860 million to AUKUS, yes? Could we say we want a refund, and get it?

Newlands?

Those claims for the virtues of massive stadiums are made all over the world. And they just about never stack up.

Looked very good. I guess my only quibble would be every stand at Adelaide oval named after men. This, a result I guess of mostly men having performed heroics there - from the Chappels to Bradman etc - but something for them to look at down the track.

Funnily enough, I had a close look at that very thing on Thursday evening, speaking at a function at Adelaide Oval and staying afterwards at the Oval Hotel, which allowed me to have breakfast overlooking the field. It did look quietly impressive. Amazing they have kept a strip of grass on one side!

In terms of getting political support from the mob for insane stadium expenditure, it is sport that holds the cards.

The Danish Parliament has been laughing at Trump and perfectly treating him like the fool he has become.

You honestly couldn't make this shit up! (Well, apart from you, George Orwell.)

The big sports, which pay no tax, for starters. In the realms of "bread and circuses" it us sports people who provide the circus!

Tks Steve. And as my "Reader" I know you to be a good judge!

I used to alwasy stay at the Grand Chancellor, but Hobart now has so much more choice!

THanks Axel. Tell EVERYONE! I love that book. And I reckon I knew not much more than you when I began.

@peterfitz1.bsky.social wouldn‘t this be a perfect response to Trump Tariffs and help our lack of medical staff in Australia ??

WHat do Taswegians think of the proposed stadium? Is it electorally popular?

Tks, Very interesting!

Yes!

On ya, and thank you. The next one is the one I am most pleased with, in the last decade. Weary Dunlop and the Thai-Burma Railway

Soon, I am told, Oh Henry. Wharf Rat rings no bells?

Broadly, yes. But he was enabled by his fellow thugs. And yes, sexual slavery was also part of it. His personal concubine, Lucretia Jansz - who resisted until told she would not see sun-up unless she submitted - lived to her mid-80s in Amsterdam. #Batavia
