The Detroit Tigers just made one off the most ridiculous plays you will ever see on a baseball diamond. 🤯

Detroiters flock Woodward Avenue in 1934 to celebrate the Tigers winning the pennant. They lost the World Series that year, but won their first championship in 1935. #PureMichigan #Detroit #Tigers #Photography #History #MLB #Baseball

Some sad confirmation from @bcgl.bsky.social while I was at UW last week—the National Digital Newspaper Program—which builds Chronicling America—has been shut down Historical newspapers are probably the archival material most used by the general public—for genealogy, local history—it’s such a loss

We’re taking a break from floors today to ooh and aah at the Tiffany Dome in Marshall Field’s, 1907. More info in the comments.

#Michigan Activity Pass is a program between Michigan’s public #libraries & participating partner destinations...provides #library cardholders the opportunity to discover cultural destinations, parks, campgrounds & recreation areas in the state at a discounted rate. #PureMichigan miactivitypass.org

I worked today on my 10 year project of digitally clipping #obituaries for Eastern Euro. people in #Detroit. I add surnames, churches, and #cemeteries. When I started there were hardly any Slavic people on #FindAGrave. I added a ton and families added info to them. Very rewarding. #genealogy

NEW: The Great Lakes hold 95% of all the surface freshwater in the United States. Severe cuts have decimated the NOAA Great Lakes lab. Scientists worry they’ve lost the ability to protect the public from toxic algal blooms, which can kill animals and sicken people. My story for @propublica.org

Malbec is amazing wine. I hope this isn't an environmental nightmare.

It's been great to watch all of these games. Go Tigers! 🐯 ⚾

Adding #Ancestry #DNA matches to my dad's tree. Just now a message popped up that a DNA Source was created. Wow!!! #Genealogy

A bad sign, not just because of what it recalls historically, but for what it promises about the future. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

#Maps are one of the most important tools in #genealogy; for understanding your #Ancestry and building your #FamilyTree. The LOC has free historic JPEG maps that you can download. I was looking for Carroll County NH, where some of my #Maine relations crossed the border. www.loc.gov/maps/

Listening to @lizstrout.bsky.social "Tell Me Everything." I read "Olive Kittridge" & "Olive, Again" previously but recently read & loved "The Burgess Boys." I was going to try to read the Lucy Barton books before this one, but really wanted to read more about Bob Burgess. #books #booksky #Libby

In the 1977 tornadoes, my family hovered in our car at my brother's Little League game. Seven miles away, our house was flooded from open windows, the barn across the road was down, and a rural cemetery lost its headstones to the woods miles away. Weather forecasting today has changed all that. Sad!
