"I have never read a text that was more complex and fascinating in its rendering of historical actuality and change." Adam Tooze on Vasily Grossman's Stalingrad and Life and Fate. adamtooze.substack.com/p/chartbook-...

Been a long time but this review makes me anxious to reread Schwartz

great to see one of my favorite NY School Poets remembered. Heard him read from his great I Remember poem at the Ear Inn Manhattan in the early 80s

Joe Brainard had a reputation for being the antithesis of the “tortured artist.” He also famously retired early, withdrawing from the art world in his thirties. A new collection of his letters offers a perspective on the short arc of his life and career.

Again from DeLong: "My view NVIDIA’s extraordinary market-cap gains are casting long shadows over its customers’ long-term profitability. Each extra $1.00 of its market cap is bad news for tech-sector profitability as a whole..."

But a few quotes:"My guess? NOT INVESTMENT ADVICE: When NVIDIA's fundamental equity value goes up by $1.00, the fundamental equity value of the tech sector as a whole goes down by -$.67. There is a positive consumer surplus offset."

Unfortunately no linking available (yet?) from substack. but worth checking out.

May well be, if AI's primary TAM is consumer market monetization, a la the internet or mobile. Perhaps the 1980s enterprise ramp of software, or the aerospace defense, tronics boom of the early 1960s will prove more apt analogies.

As LLMS reach a zero sum cul de sac, where tech broadly loses 67 cents in equity value for every dollar Nvidia increases.

Brad DeLong, in his Grasping Reality on Substack, responding to Katie Martin's article “AI stocks, what if this time is different” in the Financial Times makes a persuasive case for an impending, at least temporary, plateauing in the AI “wave”.

another signal back to the golden age of the 40s and 50s didn’t mean the 1940 and 50s

And just like that, Donald Trump gets away with his insurrection. Something that would have never happened in any other democratic country on earth. Astonishing.
