😃 A new article published in J Biomech by Godin et al suggest that for kinematics assessment of running, 16-352 steps are needed for spatio-temporal parameters, 16-400 steps for linear measurements, and 336-704 steps for non-linear measurements. 👀 buff.ly/ZdoVe50 #BiomechSky

University of Lausanne is on the Stand Up For Science map! Only university in Switzerland to participate, it seems. France has a LOT more than shown, see link below. Find one near you! We are in Géopolis 2121 , 7.03.2025, 12-1pm. standupforscience2025.org standupforscience.fr

"The universities control the knowledge in our society (...) We have to agressivly attack the universities (...). Fundamental lies that feminism is liberating (...) There is wisdom in what Nixon said, the professors are the enemy " bryanalexander.org/politics/the... www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FR6...

Pleased to have contributed to this new book published today with our chapter: "How Older Adults Can Avoid Falls via Proactive and Reactive Gait Adaptability: A Brief Introduction" The published chapter: link.springer.com/chapter/10.1... & the #openaccess preprint here: osf.io/preprints/os...

Walking is an essential part of life- yet we do not know how the nervous system generates the underlying neural programs. Please find our sneak-peek preprint on neural generation of locomotion in the mouse: biorxiv.org/content/10.1... Pan-neuronal one-spot tracks in lumbar cord w clearing & LSM

This stark profit disparity highlights the challenges in promoting sustainable transportation. How can we incentivize walking and cycling when car and air travel, fueled by the highly profitable petrol industry, remain the dominant modes of transport?

Just added: Accelerometric data from 42 young individuals to our gait analysis database. Now comparing walking patterns of young and older adults. Check it out on Zenodo! zenodo.org/records/1441...

Just published in Journal of Frailty, Sarcopenia and Falls: About Falls Efficacy: A commentary on “World guidelines for falls prevention and management for older adults: a global initiative” Great work by Shawn to lead this discussion! Free to read here: www.jfsf.eu/Article.php?...

Just updated my code to stream (acc, gyr, mag, etc) data from your phone to Matlab, so that it also works with newer versions of Android. Want to do some fun measurements with your phone, check it out! github.com/SjoerdBruijn...

I'm sure this Science story on how systematic reviews are threatened by paper mills is good, but the illustration by Sara Gironi Carnevale is great saragironicarnevale.com Story: https://www.science.org/content/article/systematic-reviews-aim-extract-broad-conclusions-many-studies-are-peril

Here we are, ready to share the latest research in biomechanics! We're excited to connect with our readers, authors, reviewers, and editors here - follow us to stay updated on cutting-edge advancements!

First 'proper' post here (and a lazy quote repost at that :D). New paper published in J Neuroscience. Here we explore the neural mechanisms underpinning the paradoxical decreases in stability that occur when people try to consciously control balance. www.jneurosci.org/content/44/4...

Anyone else noticed the Chrome Zotero Connector for automatically saving PDFs of a currently-open article doesn't work for Elsevier articles specifically, even when open access? Elsevier often (always?) requires a captcha now.

Just noticed that the Gait & Posture guidelines no longer include the statement regarding sample size justification introduced between 2018 and 2019 that sparked our analysis. Wonder what went into that decision?

This paper is just out: doi.org/10.7717/peer.... We found that balance training on unstable surfaces in older adults does improve feedback responses to balance perturbations. Effects suggest that this may be mainly due to a decrease in muscle activation reducing an overshoot in the responses.

Grant agency: "In the end, despite some initial enthusiasm, the panel was not convinced [...], and expected that the impact in the field is likely to be low." Despite evidence to the contrary, funding bodies remain confident they can predict the success of a project. elifesciences.org/articles/13323

My new article published today in Sensors. www.mdpi.com/1424-8220/24...

Sensors journal invites submissions for the Special Issue 'Sensors for Unsupervised Mobility Assessment and Rehabilitation.' We welcome research on ecological mobility assessments, wearable sensors, and remote monitoring systems. Submission deadline: September 30, 2025. www.mdpi.com/journal/sens...
