The American people were lied to about Vietnam, with tragic consequences. The American people were lied to about Iraq, with tragic consequences. The American people are being lied to again today. We cannot allow history to repeat itself.

It is quite remarkable how so many men understand perfectly well what personal space means when they’re queuing with other men but somehow magically forget when they’re queuing with women. Yes I am on public transport again.

This is not surprising. Writing drafts help me formulate and articulate my thoughts and make my writing better. I also find that taking notes help me remember things, so if I’m simply given the PowerPoint, I don’t remember the details as well.

Juneteenth is the perfect moment to remind everyone of two facts: 1. Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it. 2. Those who prevent history from being taught are plotting to repeat it. Read this out loud. Read it again. Then teach it to your kids.

Who remembers Rodney King?

I have been re-reading the Bachman Books by @stephenking.bsky.social . All of the stories in this series feel dystopian. I have owned this book for decades and read it many times. But reading it this year, turning to this page, and seeing the date and tagline. . . . #booksky

Between Greta Thunberg and her fellow activists being kidnapped by Israel and Trump turning LA into his personal war zone, I hope people realise that protest, no matter how peaceful, will always be met with violence by dying empires.

Jack White for the win 🔥

Rare audio. Celia Black, 1974 - 114 years old, remembering the slave fields. Her voice isn't ancient history — it's a reminder we're only a generation removed from this. Think you know American history? You don't. 🧠ERASED reveals what they buried. 📖Read it. Share it: stan.store/gxldsociety/...

Remember folks, women are too emotional to be president.

Somehow this is way better than I imagined.

This is Lola. She is one of the most skilled soccer dribblers we've ever seen, so it makes sense that she's already capturing footage for her documentary. 14/10

The enemy of my enemy is still my enemy but I still like seeing them fight

Don’t like gay marriage? Don’t get married to the same sex. Don’t like gender-affirming care? Don’t have any. Don’t like Planned Parenthood? Don’t go there. Don’t like abortion? Don’t get one. Just because *you* don’t like it doesn’t mean *others* shouldn’t be able to it.

Back before the Internet, we thought the reason for human stupidity was the lack of information options. I’ll put it this way: That wasn’t it.

What a wonderful sight. Britain says no to Israel's Genocide. End the arms sales. Impose trade sanctions on Israel. Free Palestine 🇵🇸

Regular reminder that many people can’t leave, and they’re often the ones in the most danger. Disabled, autistic, trans, marginalized, unhoused or living in poverty? It will be nearly impossible to flee fascism. People with privilege need to remember that and fight for all

be nice to my friends or else

350 richest people and families in the UK have wealth of ÂŁ772.8bn. Free to pollute, create bubbles in housing/security markets; buy political parties, legislators, shape laws; power to control our lives. 16m live in poverty. 128,000 a year die in fuel poverty. archive.ph/xNvPk

Reform want to be in power whatever the cost. The public are waking up to it.

This is bleak reading

I have relatives in the medical profession who tell stories of going to conferences and white peers clutching their bags when they enter the lift, of going into work and the staff asking if they live in mudhuts. That’s the level of what we are often dealing with here. The stories would shock you.

Shout out to the disabled community for always showing up, always being on the right side of history and justice, always willing to put their bodies on the line, all for the cause of making sure *everyone* has the basic dignity of health care.

The Settlers documentary didn’t reveal anything new - it simply laid bare what mainstream media has ignored for too long. Now our government wants to do a trade deal with this regime? It’s disgraceful. 1/2

the new york sewer rats have finally elected a new rat pope

Happy 99th birthday to the man who gave voice to the wild. 🎉 Sir David Attenborough, thank you for a lifetime dedicated to the natural world, and for sharing its story with wisdom, wonder, and grace. You've inspired generations to fall in love with nature.

You mean to tell me that Chicago gets to claim Michael Jordan, the first Black President AND the first American Pope? Good lord you ain't going to be able to tell them NOTHING.

I think about her answer all the time.

One of the things I recently realized with my particular flavor of autism is it has made me hypervigilant about people's words/expressions/body language/etc. This would probably be great except I know for a fact I cannot trust my brain to correctly interpret any of it

“Do not mock us.”

Feels like the moment MeToo went from discussing sexual assault and harassment by celebrities to examining these same abuses by family and friends, we saw an acceleration of the argument that “society gives boys nothing”. An orchestrated backlash by abusers who saw that their unmasking was coming.

“Eugenics isn’t just about eradicating the lesser people like myself, like people with disabilities, it’s about attaching disability to marginalized communities in order to slate them for eradication.” Fantastic crash course in eugenics, ableism & anti-blackness from @imanibarbarin.bsky.social

I hope everyone knows that it's very easy for any social content platform, including Bluesky, to be a misery machine and that if you aren't intentional about it, they will absolutely decrease the positive impact you have on the world while making you less happy.
