It’s TACO Tuesday on Capitol Hill! I hear the White House celebrates every day.

We just got an email that Hopkins is freezing salaries, hiring, and some construction projects. In addition to the 800 million USAID we lost, we’ve had another 50 million in grants canceled so far. And a 2/3 year over year decline in funded grants despite an increase in submissions

Funding for all of atmospheric scientists?

These are the employees of NASA/GISS on the day Mr. Trump spitefully evicted the whole institute from its offices, leased from Columbia University, above an iconic corner diner.

🌊While checking the NASA Worldview for Manitoba fires smoke, I found these two ocean eyes looking at me :) worldview.earthdata.nasa.gov?v=-34.816198...

Pretty big coronal mass ejection from the Sun hit us last night. The results are beautiful.

we are so fkd.

🌊 NASA and other federal agencies supporting Earth and Ocean sciences are decimated in president's proposed budget. This tool can help all the science advocates - Kudos to the Planetary Society for putting it together. dashboards.planetary.org/nasa-science...

Four charts showing the extent of cuts to NASA in the FY26 budget: - Cuts to every science division - Smallest science funding since 1984 - 19 active, inflight missions cancelled - Smallest NASA budget since FY 1961

I am so sorry team. So sorry...

No more #NASA Public Affairs funding at field centers and a big cut at NASA HQ. Even though NASA PAO has no real idea how to communicate, at a time when you want to #MakeAmericaGreatInSpace, cutting outreach budgets is a dumb idea. #EmbraceTheChallenge y'all.

"NASA’s primary role is space exploration and, similar to prior generations that were inspired by the Apollo lunar landings, NASA will inspire the next generation of explorers through exciting, ambitious space missions. The FY 2026 budget proposes no funding for NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement."

Announcing you are cutting STEM education programs by including a photo of kids learning from said programs.

The NASA planetary science fleet chart if the president’s budget is enacted.

We're going to learn some tough stuff today about the White House's proposed budget for fiscal year 2026—including what they have in mind for NASA. I'll share what I hear, but remember: CONGRESS decides how much money NASA gets, not the White House. So whatever happens today, the fight continues.

In this insane world, i had a great pleasure to spend 10 days with amazing students and instructors of #NASA and @umaine.bsky.social Ocean Optics Class... While many things depress me these days, these young scientists give me a reason to fight for the future of ocean and earth science.

sitting in a coffee shop/library in rural coastal Maine town and awaiting that scene from the end of the "fight club"....

🥄#FedFamily we're going to need morale today and tomorrow. Take time to talk in the hallways, get coffee with each other, bring in cookies. Hang in there. #NASAstrong 🧪🔭

Kelp forests on the coast of Maine are in decline owing to rapid ocean warming and are being replaced by turf algae, which alter the ecosystem’s chemistry, hindering the recovery of kelp forests. Learn more in this week's issue of Science: scim.ag/4dwzl8j

I was OPT. So so so many of my colleagues, in US and abroad were OPT. This is stupid.

🚨URGENT RESPONSE CALL🚨 🌪️23 LIVES WERE LOST OVERNIGHT AS TORNADOS HIT KY. KY has one of several regions in the US without 24/7 National Weather Service coverage, due to DOGE cuts. W/out overnight monitoring, ppl don't receive weather warnings. THIS is how science cuts cost lives. shorturl.at/JgTjU

So proud of the research I did at GISS and thankful for the scientific community it offered me: www.nytimes.com/2025/05/16/n...

Inspired by Vietnam-era activism, Stand Up For Science is hosting a series of teach-ins around the USA this summer, focusing on the importance of science and science funding. I’m doing one May 30th in Silver Spring. Many of you should consider doing one too, and I’m happy to help you plan it 🦑🧪🌎

#scam I paid @Climeworks £1,650 to remove 2 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere. Was I a gullible idiot? Yes. Icelandic newspaper @heimildinhas shown that they not only haven’t captured my 2 tons, they don’t even capture their own emissions heimildin.is/FGY3 via @heimildin

I keep saying this, I know, but if we must have religion, let it mean something. Let it be a force for compassion and justice.
