We’re fixing Atlantic Avenue! This is what a comprehensive community-led rezoning looks like 🏠

Feminism.

“Unvaxxed women who contracted COVID during pregnancy were at a higher risk of stillbirths, more likely to be admitted to the intensive care unit, give birth prematurely or die. Yet their greatest protection — the COVID vax — sat largely untouched, buried under doubt, polluted by disinformation.”

Great timing.

Car culture is sedentary culture. Public transport encourages active commuting.

🧵 Having houseplants as one of my shifting intense interests has actually helped me with a lot of challenges I have because I’m Neurodivergent A lot of Neurodivergent people are into plants, and many of us might be interested in it but prevented due to the trauma and cost of killing so many 😅

Flatly counter to the evidence. Let’s be for real.

Noname's Juneteenth show at SummerStage in Central Park has been cancelled. The cancellation comes one week after New York City officials pressured the nonprofit that runs SummerStage into cancelling a Kehlani show for dubious "security concerns.

personally i just want to post to my friends and read my friends’ posts, and maybe find other people to connect with who could be friends. i don’t want Larger Debate. i don’t want to be in a marketplace of ideas. i don’t want algorithms or ads. i just want to be able to talk to my friends

George Floyd was murdered by police five years ago today. The Say Their Names cemetery in Minneapolis features memorials for Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Amadou Diallo, Oscar Grant, Korryn Gaines, Freddie Gray and far too many more Black people who died at the hands of police.

Work requirements hurt poor people AND are a waste of money. Arkansas spent $26 million on administrative costs for work requirements — and saw no increase in employment. Georgia’s program cost $40 million in one year — 80% of that went to administrative and consulting costs.

Did you know that Medicare doesn’t cover long term care? Defined as over 90 days. Medicaid does.

"A man who spent months in a Kansas City jail waiting to be transferred to a state psychiatric hospital for court-ordered treatment died on Monday." "Beckmann was found unresponsive in his cell." "Beckmann hadn't been convicted of any crimes." #Missouri #USA #Incarceration #Healthcare

All of NIH funding to Northwestern University is frozen. This pause includes noncompeting approved funding, new and competing grants with fundable scores. No reimbursements for money already spent have been received since March. This situation is rarely reported so please Please get the word out!

The reason you're having trouble concentrating if you are here in the US is because we're basically being chased around by serial killers and being asked to disregard the fact.

"In Brazil, the Chinese social media giant TikTok is said to be the latest company planning a supercomputer warehouse that will use vast amounts of water and energy."

House Republicans just passed Trump’s Tax Scam (the GOP’s Medicaid-slashing, billionaire-enriching megabill) in a 215-214 vote. The bill got even worse overnight, but the most important thing to know right now is this: This fight isn’t over, and this bill can still be stopped. 🧵

I despise legislative fights but I've unfortunately had to be part of many of them at the state level over the years. And what I can tell you is that NOTHING happens to stop bad bills unless PUBLIC PRESSURE IS RAMPED UP TO 1000%. That pressure can only build if the public is INFORMED.

"Three senior law enforcement officials" from which agency? It certainly may be true, but this administration lies regularly. Don't believe anything so incendiary until it's confirmed independently.

I sincerely hope that these examples shine a greater light on the utter depravity of how US jails and prisons operate OVERALL. Because I've traveled miles to see incarcerated people and been REFUSED for no reason AT ALL. This happens A LOT.
