I have to say I think blocklists are pretty weird. I think blocking great as a safety measure, very important. But outside of that I find it a little weird. They either seem to be performative or an attempt to make a public space a semi-private one.

So my parents had to have their dog put down. I am very sad, he is one of the best living creatures I have ever met. What is annoying (as with all grief) is that the world hasn’t stopped, flags aren’t at half mast, and there isn’t a state funeral being planned. So I’m telling you instead.

The bar for getting value is significantly higher for US hosted conferences now. It must now pass the ‘worth getting detained for’ criteria. An org like GitHub has the means to host elsewhere. One way or the other this very disappointing.

I have an idea. We know that naps are restorative and sleep is important (and also great). We also know collective prayer has numerous benefits for communities, mental health, stress regulation. Introducing… collective naps. I think it needs to be a thing.
