We’re launching a website of revolutionary speculative fiction, art and poetry set in the world of Everything for Everyone! We’re calling it Project 2052. To support author honoraria, subscribe as a sustainer, make a one-time donation, or pitch a story here: www.commonnotions.org/project2052.

I hope there's a course correction, but it's incredibly plausible that Hollywood's desire to not offend reactionaries ends up costing us 20-ish years of more diverse stories, roughly akin to the comparative drought of POC and queer stories in the '80s and '90s when compared to the '70s.

@baltimorebeat.bsky.social has led the way on the coverage of the crisis of police violence and mental health services in our city recently and it’s been a real honor to be a part of it. Here are some of the stories from the past couple weeks.

remain calm. millennials still in control

I agree @vanhollen.senate.gov @alsobrooks.senate.gov

Truly I don't know how to describe this insane media culture we live in. We have the numbers for how many millions conservatives put into campaigns to spread disinformation and moral panics, we have the stats on right wing extremism growth, and yet, it is actually the left's fault because???

A federal judge is keeping this man in jail to protect him from the federal government.

These people are Nazis. I know that's well-understood by many people at this point, but not enough. They are Nazis and we need to keep saying it.

“Hundreds of protesters lined part of U.S. Highway 41 that slices through the marshy Everglades — also known as Tamiami Trail — as dump trucks hauling materials lumbered into the airfield.”

Just to underscore--the president is attending the opening of an immigrant tent city that was purposely built (in one week) on an abandoned airfield in the middle of the Florida Everglades because it's surrounded by alligators and pythons to deter people from fleeing, or kill them if they do.

deerhoof just announced they’re taking their entire music catalog off of spotify

so on the other side of impoundment, DOGE, and the big bill passing is a federal government shorn of any role except police work, including the corruption that allows its allies to get away with whatever for a price

For the love of God! It's a municipal mayoral race in one of the bluest cities in the country. I am begging with tears in my eyes to not extrapolate anything from this or I will turn this car around.

We're not shy about our hate of fascism and our demands that the regime must go. This day was made possible by all the veterans that showed up, @cliffcashcomedy for organizing and rallying us, and the folks at FLARE's Impeachment Action Center.

the Democrats haven't even said anything about it! like, they didn't blame it on Trump!

It's official, my desire to mask around others who are sick to avoid viral illness has been labeled "neurodivergent rigidity"

the bar is so low that it's in the center of the earth and yet there are Dems who still somehow find a way to bonk their heads on it so much so, in fact, that chris van Hollen has to become one of the most memorable members of the party simply by consistently saying "racism is bad"

Senator Van Hollen has consistently shown up for justice and humanity of all people, including for Muslims. And he's done so unapologetically. He should be the Democratic Party Senate leader.

if you think "death to the idf" is offensive, wait til you hear what the idf sings while bulldozing over palestinians in their refugee tents

The fact we don’t regularly have “should billionaires exist” discourse while regularly discussing “should we have social services for the poor and middle class” tells you a lot about why Mamdani and others are very good for shifting the Overton Window.

"Baltimore City Council President Zeke Cohen is calling for a hearing to examine the city's crisis response systems after three Baltimore residents died or were killed during interactions with police officers 'while experiencing behavioral health crises.'" #Maryland #USA #Policing

MEDIA: Are you a communist? MAMDANI: I am not ... I call myself a democratic socialist in many ways inspired by the words of Dr. King from decades ago, who said: 'Call it democracy or call it democratic socialism, there has to be a better distribution of wealth for all of God's children'

Not that anyone asked for my opinion on this, but I agree, in that the approach of the campaign was "the art of the possible" as opposed to the momentum of grievance. The us-vs.-them nature of two-party politics seek no answers, solutions, or ambitions, and the Mamdani campaign did.

this is the future. seriously, you watch this video for one minute and it makes you feel like we’re gonna make it

To Trump this is the "worst of the worst." In reality it's a mom who never committed a crime, lived in US for nearly 50 years and checked in with US Immigration as required. She is now in an ICE penal colony:

no one cares that this is illegal but it is illegal and seems like something that might trip the court’s “major questions” doctrine

Will Van Hollen (a senator and MoC for 20+ years) get invited on TV to say this the same way news networks lined up to have first termer nobody Gillen denounce Mamdani?

This is a subject I have been brooding about for some time. I am grateful to the Washington Monthly for posting this piece. washingtonmonthly.com/2025/06/27/i...

Complete solidarity with my comrades at ACCE - a long time political home. This news is devastating.

We should all be disgusted by the flood of anti-Muslim remarks spewed in the aftermath of Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the NYC mayoral primary — some blatant, others latent. Shame on the members of Congress who have engaged in such bigotry and anyone who doesn’t challenge it.

For activists, advocates, educators, carers, anyone on the front lines in danger of exhaustion and demoralization - If you need a space to breathe- To rest, to reflect with peers - We are creating a network of drop in meetings:

I heard vague comments that Mamdani was in support of Trans Rights but didn’t know he was “walk in a Pride Parade with the Trans Flag” level of supportive of Trans Rights.

Yes and this is already happening. A Brookings poll from earlier this year showed people increasingly see something called “antisemitic” as a way to demonize critics of Israel or political opponents (or both) www.brookings.edu/articles/pol...

PLEASE @housedemocrats.bsky.social @democrats.senate.gov FOCUS ON YOUR COLLEAGUES' VICIOUS RACIST LIES about how federal and state budgets function, about social insurance, healthcare, the minuscule "safety net"

The "misinformation" in question here is that gender-affirming care reduces suicides among youth. It merely reduces depression, anxiety, self-harm and suicidal ideation. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

feels like spending is always “adding to the deficit” when republicans are in charge—a functionality abstract idea—but it’s “how do you pay for this??” when democrats are in charge the former is a problem easily swept away, the latter demands an immediate answer

Mamdani does what I've been calling constructive politics: appeals to identity as a building block of solidarity rather than a replacement for it. love to see it

What struck me about this paper was not just the very high prevalence of cognitive impairment and memory issues as sequelae of infection, but also that the population effects of such high rates of cognitive dysfunction must be changing society itself. bmcneurol.biomedcentral.com/articles/10....

Yes Mamdani is a digital native who's savvy about vertical video. But this Ezra Klein @chrislhayes.bsky.social convo ignores the (as it were) IRL ubiquity of the candidate—& of his canvassers, who were omnipresent in the streets, who knocked on a zillion doors etc. This was a shoe leather victory.

Also the entire news media. There's really not that many Democrats on the anti-Mamdani beat but curiously virtually all of them are getting prime slots on cable news shows as if they speak for all Democrats. It makes you think!

It would be tempting to find the “antisemitism panic” re Mamdani laughably absurd, & yet I’m reminded of the “DEI” & “trans panics.” The fact that ppl w power are able to say absurd things in public shld be understood instrumentally: as anti-democratic calls for state violence

Democratic legislators mostly in blue states are attempting to fight back against Trump’s efforts to withhold funding from their states with bills that aim to give the federal government a taste of its own medicine.

Goodbye, my friend.

Clear-eyed, strategic analysis from @emanabdelhadi.bsky.social at @thedrift-mag.bsky.social: "I’m not sure that the [pro-Palestine] movement has saved a single life, and that’s extremely sobering. It speaks to the fact that we don’t live in a democracy; + www.thedriftmag.com/we-will-not-...

Do everything in your power to stop this and KEEP delaying Congress. Do not cooperate with Republicans. NO VOTES while the Constitution is not in [email protected] @alsobrooks.senate.gov @repjohnnyo.bsky.social

Groups and activists have been pushing for this for at least a week -- this was not a given. I hate that we had to fight for it but regardless, this is a WIN and big shout out to everyone who has been calling and pushing and organizing around this
