Canada Post is broke, negotiations with the union have stalled, and now postal workers are refusing overtime work in an effort to push back against company proposals that would see the part-time workforce triple. my latest for @pressprogress.ca 📬

Great article on the labour dispute between CUPW & Canada Post, with analysis by @brocklabour.bsky.social’s @alisonbraley.bsky.social. #canlab

In trying to compete with Amazon, Canada Post is in a "race to the bottom." As the Crown corporation gets squeezed out of the parcel business, its union is fighting hard to hold the line on working conditions.

“Even if it’s not true, sharing this information is useful because it alerts people to this possibility of foreign interference through influencers."

Canadian Conservative YouTubers claim they were offered Russian money to fund their videos. Their strange story raises serious questions Experts warn that content creators and social media influencers could be prime targets for foreign actors looking to interfere in Canada’s democracy

According to @abridgman.bsky.social, audiences need to encourage a “culture of accountability” with social media influencers: “The key is to try to figure out a transparency regime around this as much as possible, so that people can make informed decisions when they listen to content creators”

NEW: Ottawa Police deny inviting convoy figure to help them with anti-LGBTQ+ protest at elementary school Community groups are now calling for police to face an investigation after ‘convoy church’ pastor tells city councillors he was “invited” to help police manage aggressive protests

Convoy pastor elaborates on his friendship with Ottawa Police: “It was almost like a friendship that we were starting to form” “It was just, ‘Hey, you hear anything, give me a call, and if I hear anything I’ll give you a call’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah Derek, I’ll keep you informed if I hear anything’.”

Danielle Smith is on a collision course with her own base. Because while most Albertans don't want separation, the ones who propelled her to office very much do.

TLDL: don’t get distracted from the real issues by an impossible (and ridiculous) plan.

This whole situation is so full of contradictions it makes your head spin. Here we untangle Alberta separatism a bit by picking apart where western alienation is coming from and how it became the convoy-driving right wing libertarian movement that it is.

Advocates accuse Doug Ford's government of targeting the homeless with its new Bill 6. It "doesn’t actually solve homelessness, it just punishes people," says @dianacmcnally.bsky.social.

Today, PM Carney appointed a minister of AI, following up on his election promise to be “relentless in looking for ways to make government more efficient.” Canada’s public service unions say policies about the use of AI in government will be a priority when they begin bargaining later this year.

Public service unions question Carney government’s plans for ‘AI’ and hiring caps on federal workforce PSAC president says prime minister needs to ‘actually consult with the unions and the frontline workers who deliver the services’

Danielle Smith wants to loosen restrictions on corporate financing of Alberta elections. The new rules would allow candidates and parties to take money directly from corporations and unions.

Yesterday, Germany’s domestic intelligence agency classified the far-right AfD as an “extremist” organization I spoke with European parliamentarian @matthias-ecke.eu, who explained what the AfD is, how they emerged and why they are now considered a threat to democracy www.dw.com/en/german-af...

You asked, I listened As an act of civic journalism, I contacted the Privy Council Office and the Speaker of the House of Commons to clarify if Pierre Poilievre can still serve as Leader of the Opposition and if he can continue living in his public mansion The official answers: No and no

Pierre Poilievre no longer entitled to live at public mansion: Privy Council Office Poilievre ineligible to live at Stornoway after losing his own seat

Politicians don't have to like reporters, but it's a bizarre strategy to be so openly hostile to them, like PP did. If you're a politician you are going to have to work with journalists. Put on your big boy pants and be a god damn professional at work. Anyway. I like them apples.

I'm sure by now you've seen the viral clip of Pierre Poilievre dismissively answering questions from a journalist and eating an apple. In light of recent election results, I reached out to the journalist in that clip to get his thoughts. pressprogress.ca/journalist-i...

Canadians really dislike unnecessary public rudeness. His fans may have enjoyed it but for a lot of people, that was it for Poilievre, they were done with him.

I hope Don Urquhart enjoys this moment. He and many other of my colleagues were treated terribly by Poilievre and the Conservative Party in this election.

The journalist in Poilievre’s viral "apple" video feels "a substantial degree of satisfaction that Pierre Poilievre lost." "Canadians saw through his three-word grade-school rhyming, and his toxicity and bullying nature which points more to a tearing down, not a unifying of our country."

Conservatives missed all-candidates events at a much higher rate than the other major parties. We looked for reports of no-shows in each of the 343 federal ridings, and here's what we found:

Small election day scoop: Donors to Pierre Poilievre's Conservative leadership campaign picked up a $16,000 tab for a home reno contractor Poilievre claimed $85,000 in personal and living expenses that appear to relate to his private residence, located in a ”resort lifestyle” community in Greely

5 strange and interesting stories we didn’t have time to tell you about before election day Here are a few of the tips and leads @pressprogress.ca was looking into during a busy and fast-paced election period
