SLOTKIN: Have you given the order to be able to shoot at unarmed protesters in any way? HEGSETH: What is that based on? SLOTKIN: It is based on Trump giving that order to your predecessor, who I give a lot of credit to bc he didn't accept the order. He has more guts & balls than you

At some point, academic conferences are just going to be unable to be held in the US. I realize Canada also presents challenges for many getting visas, but my god...

The Minnesota assassin appears to be a hate-filled right winger. So can we stop walking on eggshells about MAGA's legitimization of political violence? Yes, Republicans have also been the target of inexcusable violence, but this isn't a "both sides" issue. 1/ A🧵on the danger.

And there it is. The Minnesota assassin who shot Democratic lawmakers “voted for Donald Trump and was a strong Trump supporter,” according to his best friend.

@altnps.bsky.social reporting over 7.2 million people attending protests across the country! Well-done!

Donald Trump does NOT want you to share this footage of his pathetically tiny birthday parade crowd.

Friends, show me all the pictures of your No Kings day protests! @50501movement.bsky.social #NoKings

Apparently there’s no money for life saving science, but there’s money for a parade.

Regarding the utility of protest, the final word goes to Harvey Milk: "I know that you cannot live on hope alone. But without it, life is not worth living. And you, and you, and you...you gotta give 'em hope."

@governorwalz.mn.gov: "The road to authoritarianism is littered with people telling you you're overreacting."

At this moment, it is important to remind everyone that the founders empowered a "well-regulated militia" to act as a check against the tyrannical use of federal forces and the fear that a standing army (i.e. military) could undermine domestic liberty, especially if used by authoritarians.

Genuinely so proud of my congressman @mannionforny.bsky.social. Keep at it!

What will you do when authoritarianism comes to America? Because it's here. Right now.

Do you identify more with Luke Skywalker or Emperor Palpatine? That’s tough, I think. You better answer that one honey.

To say impeachment is partisan is absurd. It’s not about parties. Impeachment goes *deeper* than modern partisanship. Impeachment was born out of a response to the reason the American Revolution happened in the first place: tyranny. Impeachment exists to stop tyrants. We need it. *now*

To clarify, I'm not worried because this tells us something about the political views of "The Troops." I'm alarmed because of how many times/places professional norms had to break down for this to happen.

This is bad. Really bad. Congress needs to step in and impeach. The only solution to this problem is a political one. And sadly, Congress has shown itself unwilling to act. What a sad day for America.

Once again, the Trump administration is actively trying to kill Americans.

in so many videos out of LA i am seeing officers aiming rubber bullets right into crowds, this is filling me with a deep and anxious rage knowing what happens when they do that www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/ne...

My statement on what's unfolding in Los Angeles.

1777: U.S. Marines muster in support of patriots fighting a tyrant 2025: U.S. Marines muster in support of a tyrant fighting patriots

Congress: You can and should impeach Trump - now.

The mansplaining is strong today…

This is not leadership. This is shallow posturing. If Jeffries wanted to lead, he would get his caucus to negotiate about 5 more GOP votes to impeach. A few GOP members already voted to impeach before. Others have districts at risk. This is very doable under the circumstances this country is in.

Government officials threatening people if they donate to opposition campaigns is straight up authoritarianism. A sign of a place no longer a democracy

Check out the part where the White House says they have zero tolerance for violence against law enforcement. They left out a footnote: Except for pardoning people who did that on J6.

There are two pathways to what Trump is doing: 1) He is federalizing 2000 National Guard troops; or 2) He is deploying 2000 members of another state’s National Guard with the permission of *that* state’s governor. These posts walk through the relevant authorities—and the questions they raise:

Given the rapidly escalating situation, here’s a primer on presidential authority over domestic use of the military written for @goodauth.bsky.social w/ @profjessblankshain.bsky.social @dburbach.bsky.social @lindsaypcohn.bsky.social @theomilo.bsky.social.

Here's a piece written by myself, @lindsaypcohn.bsky.social , and @proflupton.bsky.social during the federal paramilitary crackdown in Portland in 2020 about how use of military-looking 'police' can cause lasting damage to civil-military relations www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

This is fascism. Being punished for who you associate with.

Ruben Reacts: Telling your constituents they’re going to die is an asshole thing to do

Looking forward to the apology from anyone who voted for Donald Trump because they thought Hillary and Kamala were too emotional to be president.

Normalize talking about impeachment! Talk to people in your offline life about it. Normalize it. Make sure to tell them that calling and emailing their members of Congress is really important, and it's also easy to do! Educate, inform, empower, and encourage them.

Cuomo used state resources to investigate and smear his victims, including but not limited to seeking subpoenas for their gynecology records. He also placed covid+ patients in nursing homes, knowing the risk to elderly residents.
