Snake stone. How wonderful is this? Nature, eh

Check out the call for papers for this exciting conference in beautiful Boulogne-sur-Mer in March next year on 'Women in War in France, Britain and Ireland'. It should be a fascinating event. femmescombattantes.univ-littoral.fr/en/call-for-...

At the Menin Gate. The desire to connect with those lost a century plus ago is strong, the gate such a focal point. And rightly so.

The Menin Gate, just last week. Now divested of its shrouds, once again the Gate becomes a focal point for the curious, or for those seeking names or leaving remembrances. All this while pedestrians move through its arches, just as soldiers once passed though its rubble, to the sound of the guns

Starfish! Great to work on this project with my wondetful colleagues at Keele www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Remembering Tommy: Remembering Chris. My mate Chris Foster passed away last week, leaving a huge hole. This project was beloved by both of us: this is for you, my friend

Todya's badge - a rare one for the Better 'Ole soldiers social club in Paris. The badge date must be post-1915 as the famous Bairnsfather "Better 'Ole" cartoon wasn't published till late 1915. In all the years I have been collecting, this is the only example of this I have seen #WW1 #FWW

I hope the ghost of Sally Ride takes her vengeance on those responsible for this.

On this day in 1971, Alan Shepard brought the Lunar Module 'Antares' down in this utterly wondrous place. Seen here in #ApolloRemastered. In the upcoming #GeminiAndMercuryRemastered, we'll see Shepard up close, aboard 'Freedom 7' as he became the first American in space.

A plaque in Coventry’s War Memorial Park to Cpl Denis Worrod, Parachute Regiment, who was killed in North Africa. Sadly, he has no known grave and is commemorated on the Medjez-el-Bab Memorial in Tunisia.

Today's badge - the first in a series. The Comrades of the Great War Association was set up in 1917 to represent the rights of those who had served or been discharged from service during WW1. Over 700 Associations were founded in the aftermath of the war. #WW1 #FWW

For those fluent in Catalan - this is a fascinating piece of work www.elpuntavui.cat/politica/art...

It’s always great when you buy used books that have extra ‘stuff’ in them. This one is a keeper…

Docklow roll of honour (for the fallen). St. Bartholomew’s Church, Docklow, Herefordshire. First World War. #LestWeForget

Why does the BBC insist on using ‘Nasa’, when it’s NASA…? If it’s in the style guides, then change them…please

Services rendered: medals awarded to a Royal Welch Fusilier for service in France & Germany between 6 June 1944 and 8 May 1945, and to a rifleman in the King’s Royal Rifle Corps for service between 1941-45. These simple items reflect stories of endurance & courage by British citizen soldiers in WW2
