BREAKING: A federal judge reversed National Institutes of Health's terminations of hundreds of critical research grants that were canceled because of their alleged connection to disfavored topics, including diversity, equity, inclusion, and gender identity. This is a major win for public health.

This is the last thing the BBC needs

Blair/Brown Bashers, take note! Same applies to NHS staff survey which also showed record high scores during their tenure

Did you know that the National Library of Ireland has digitised a first edition copy of Ulysses (Alan Clodd copy, number 120), which can be viewed in full online? Read it here: catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls0...

I'm in Amsterdam for HLTH Europe conference...but where should I go for a nice walk, meal, drink? Asking here as ppl in the other place might send me somewhere I don't wanna go.

Get this! #medsky #IDsky

There might be some confusion between ‘the pandemic is over’ & ‘covid is over’. The state of political & system-level emergency associated with pandemic spread of a new virus is over but covid is still here. So we must deal with it in our non-emergency systems rather than pretend we’re back in 2019!

She was right.

Today is the anniversary of Alan Turing’s suicide, in 1954. Turing was the father of modern computing. His codebreaking helped the Allies to win WWII. Arrested for being gay, he chose chemical castration over a prison sentence. He lost his security clearance, as all homosexuals were deemed a risk.

So British DOGE's search for wasteful spending discovered that... councils need more money to update their IT systems? www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

In preparation for next week’s parade/demonstration, tanks are being moved into Washington, DC today. Unprecedented. (Photo from a colleague in DC)

Fascinating/alarming interview with defence adviser Fiona Hill by my colleague @dansabbagh.bsky.social here: www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

This photo says it all. Russian missiles killed 4 people overnight in Kyiv - including, appallingly, 3 first responders as they tried to rescue civilian victims of earlier attacks. Putin will not stop murdering Ukrainian civilians unless forced. European leaders must act. 🇺🇦

Fitting for today’s cat fight.

I might have to cancel everything tomorrow to listen to all the 🚨 emergency 🚨 podcasts…

Tonight is the eve of Eid al-Adha which is colloquially called the Big Eid. The ‘small’ one being the one that follows Ramadan (Eid al-Fitr). Thinking of the poor, hungry and terrified on this night. Those who can’t celebrate. Stop the war. Stop supporting it. Stop the indifference about it.

Who saw this coming..

*slowly slides PBJ under seat*

The more things change....

We’ve done a relaunch! The New European is now The New World. New contributing editors, new design (in print and online), same liberal, internationalist world view. And a great first new-look issue. Check it out at the shiny new URL: www.thenewworld.co.uk

50 years ago today, on 5 June 1975, the UK held its first referendum on membership of the European Community. It was the first national referendum in British history, and produced a landslide for staying in. So why did the referendum happen? How was it won? Here's a thread to get us going...🧵

🚨 NEW: Labour is lifting 100,000 children out of poverty by expanding access to free school meals. Alongside free breakfast clubs, cheaper uniform costs and government-funded childcare, Labour is putting money in parents’ pockets and giving children the best start in life.

"We're going to pay for this not just in lives and children's lives right now, we're going to pay for this for a century." I honestly don't know how long it will take for science to recover from this administration and it makes me so sad. #SaveOurScience

Stephen King knows horror better than anyone.

Imagine dedicating your career to hurting the most in need.

Sensible I guess. Horrible times.

Socialism is what they called public power. Socialism is what they called social security.    Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.   Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people. —Harry Truman, 1952

Idiocy, pure idiocy

This is the longest war in Israel’s history. And yet the Security Council has yet to demand an end to the hostilities. @yairwallach.bsky.social argues it must. www.prospectmagazine...

Social media posts are claiming a monthly window tax of £3.70 per window per house will be introduced from August. But we could find no evidence of any such tax being announced, and the Treasury has said the claim is fake.

From Gary Lineker’s instagram in the last 24 hours. Thank you for keeping on 🙏

🚨 NEW: Farage only cares about his ‘own self-interest and personal ambition’, says Labour Ellie Reeves, the Labour Party chair, has published an attack dossier recording “10 times Nigel Farage failed working people” Full story ⤵️ www.politics.co.uk/news/2025/05...

Farage claimed in his speech today that he would raise £65 *billion* by cutting climate policies, DEI schemes, and ‘Quangos’. He’s not running a serious operation and every political journalist in the country has a public duty to shout that from the rooftops
