"Trump’s unrelenting public screeds serve as potent evidence that the Harvard funding cuts are retaliatory, and any supposed DEI 'crimes' are mere pretext."

And it’s coming from inside the house

Memorial Day is always a time that I take a pause and think of the ones I lost in service. Not just my own men but family and my Iraqi partners who risked their lives for me. I went for my traditional hike today. Now I’m grabbing a cold one and lunch. Here are a few of the men I’m thinking of today.

I recently saw a presentation of this paper and was struck by how it flips our understanding of the very negative impact of COVID on female LFP. In the longer term, the switch to remote work drew married women into this firm. We need more evidence from other contexts, but a very intriguing result.

medical debt is the #1 cause of bankruptcy in the U.S.

Today, we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. For many, Memorial Day is a day of deep personal loss. I want to honor the USAFA women who gave their lives in service—including my friend & squadron mate, C3C Chaney King. Their names live on in our hearts. Here’s a toast 🇺🇸

Complex applications are also expensive to process

the paperwork sucks

Work requirements hurt poor people AND are a waste of money. Arkansas spent $26 million on administrative costs for work requirements — and saw no increase in employment. Georgia’s program cost $40 million in one year — 80% of that went to administrative and consulting costs.

if your grand approach to politics is bloodless poll-testing so that you're always aligned with wherever public opinion happens to be, you've already lost

I saw this. It's disgusting. I don't feel safe driving through portage county. There's no reason for this kind of hate.

Well.

Is it economic to make iPhones in the U.S.? It's not a complicated question, so lemme answer with the brevity it deserves.

Educated folks are less likely to for vote for Republicans, so Republicans defund education...

Wisconsin 2015 was the canary in the coal mine. In addition to attacking tenure, they tried to remove “search for truth” from the University mission statement in the state constitution.

My favorite economist @profweinstein.bsky.social speaking on economic development at the Akron Press Club today! 🤩

It's possible -- and hear me out now -- it's possible nobody in the administration knows what's going on

Taking a break from my social media hiatus to publicly say that international students have long been the American economy's secret weapon. The best & brightest come here from all over the world, doing research, inventing technologies, starting our great businesses. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/22/u...

Excited to join the Akron Press Club this Friday to talk about why it’s time to rethink how we do local economic development—and what more effective and more community-driven strategies could look like. www.akronpressclub.org/events/new-w...

Unironically they should buy up the domains for about 60 defunct local newspapers in swing states. Hire two reporters to write almost exclusively about highschool sports and new restaurants opening with every 10th article about how the local GOP is screwing over people.

Some of the CDC's main channels for communicating urgent health information to the public have gone silent.

You want to know why Thompson, Tapper, et al. spend their days hassling Dems? Because Dems *care*. Dems react. Dems make them feel like they have agenda-setting power. Dems beg & scrape for their approval. Republicans don't give a shit. Writing about GOP crimes doesn't bring the same ego boost.

Crockett: That’s why they hired everybody from Fox because all they’re trying to do is put on a show.. I want us to refocus our attention on the American people and stop demonizing every person that ends up in ICE custody… *Applause* Van Drew: *bangs gavel*

This is more freedom, right?

Trump's crypto venture is fleecing his supporters. 80% of the new or small-time crypto investors in Trump’s coin have been hit with big losses. Meanwhile, his team is making millions off the coin’s trading fees, which stay stable even when its value goes down. It’s a grift.
