It’s weird to live in a time when basic principles like cruelty is wrong, cheating is empty & the idea that curiosity, generosity, originality, the satisfaction of earned accomplishments & loving intimacy are the center of a good life feel like countercultural concepts

Controversial but I think we should appoint a doctor to some kind of Chief Medical Officer of Health position is this possible

We're on at least year 10 of a conservative racial backlash. If you think white boys are the ones that are facing the brunt of this, I really don't know what to say to you.

It's clearly a political, not a public health decision. "CBC News has repeatedly requested an interview with Dr. Kieran Moore, the chief medical officer of Ontario, within the Ontario's Ministry of Health, & Dr. Sunil Sookram, Alberta's interim top doctor. Neither have been made available." #OnPoli

19c additives were sawdust & plaster & alum & lead & arsenic & charcoal, which added bulk to watered-down or expensive products or clarified their color. Contaminated water thinned milk & also added typhus, tuberculosis, diphtheria, listeria. tl;dr Past-food wasn't inherently safer. The FDA matters.

I could be wrong about this but I really think most Americans do not want to be forced to “do their own research” about food & drug & product safety and would rather that the government agencies that have been sorting that all out for them for decades not be obliterated in the name of “efficiency.”

The return of diseases measles and whooping cough is not a failure of science or public health It’s a failure of leadership and governance

University leaders need to understand: they are holding INCREDIBLY good cards. It is so rare in today's polarized era to have the support of 70+ percent of the public against the Trump admiministration on anything. Universities have that—AND winning legal arguments.

“How Does Paris Stay Paris? By Pouring Billions Into Public Housing.” “1/4 of residents in the French capital live in government-owned housing, part of an aggressive plan to keep lower-income Parisians— & their businesses— in the city.” Paris innovation isn’t just about people-places & bike-lanes.

The decimation of the U.S. FDA demonstrates that not enough people have read Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle.

I predict that the Buy Canadian movement, particularly food, is probably going to save lives given the rampant deregulation going on in the US right now.

Why are children not playing in the street? An FT piece analysing the - very concerning - decline in outdoor play manages to look at every possible cause: screens, spaces, school timetable changes. Apart from one. Cars. It is simply not safe for kids to play outside on streets.

Imagine a country where people are so racist that they're more afraid of diversity than they are of a fascist regime.

i'd go further than this and say boycott every single national chain until the FDA is re-funded

When did billionaires’ wallets matter more than public safety, science, and our parks? We can fund vital services — we just need the courage to tax extreme wealth. People over profits. Workers over millionaires. Government for all, not just the 1%.

Called my congressman who voted for the SAVE act. Me: What documents will I need to vote if this passes? Staffer: a DL and birth certificate. Me: The documents don’t match Staffer: Then a marriage certificate. Me: Will my husband need the marriage certificate too? Staffer: No Me: See the problem?

The irony that Native people, original inhabitants of this land, now are forced to prove we are legal citizens of this land! The SAVE Act is bullshit for that reason alone, but also because tribal IDs do not meet the requirements of the bill stating “place of birth.”

It’s a good thing Ontario has a strong, competent and proactive chief medical officer of health. Oh, wait, scratch that: he’s a craven careerist who can’t be bothered to do the basic requirements of his job.

If you haven't been, now is a great time to start wearing a mask and washing your hands a lot. Measles is transmissible through the air and via surfaces and is WAY more contagious than covid.

The shining city on a hill is a bonfire of legal illegalities

No, I did not. But please, if you did, act now!

It’s been a full week, and not a single penguin has backed down or sold out. Could there be a lesson here for America’s law firms and universities?

Meanwhile, a black lung epidemic is tearing through Appalachia, killing men as young as their 30s. And the Trump admin just defunded NIOSH, the worker health agency that’s been tracking it. inthesetimes.com/article/coal...

If you’re a North Carolinian, you can check whether your name or the names of anyone you know is on the list of the 65K voters whose votes may be tossed. You could have an opportunity to fix it if so. thegriffinlist.com

I would like you to make this pledge. “I will vote in every single election.”

Fact check friday coming soon, to a new home 💞 Thanks @jameswsthomson.com and @nationalobserver.com for keeping this alive!!!

Every time you see one of these headlines, remember that Trump/Musk INTENTIONALLY gutted the fed govt agencies -NOAA & NWS- that monitor weather and provide all of the weather data you get on your phone, local forecast, etc. They are making us all less safe.

"When investigators in the field confronted a potentially life-threatening contamination that compromised drug sterility, Pohlhaus was the person they would call. He’s the one who helped them gather evidence that could halt dangerous manufacturing or shut down a pipeline of compromised products."

The refusal to take white collar crime seriously is one aspect of this rot that is eating away at the foundations of society.
