Tomorrow is Joey's Birthday. I still miss you, man. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWTl...

My wish for you today is that you find something that you enjoy as much as Screamin' Jay Hawkins enjoyed signing Orange Colored Sky. (and remember, if you love something, hit it as hard as you can...Screamin' Jay was never one for half-steps). www.youtube.com/watch?v=23Yi...

Nick Cave's 2020 livestream of IDIOT PRAYER was one of the few good things that emerged from the pandemic... that was the first time I heard this one, which still blows me away. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1r55...

Tonight, watching the immortal Steve McQueen in THE BLOB (1958) and feeling a new rush of appreciation for Marty Sullivan, WUAB's Super Host, who introduced me to this and so much, much more.

For me, this was the stunning, unexpected highlight of last night's Bad Seeds show... from the days of waaaaaay back (brought to you here by someone who had better seats and a better camera than I did, lol). www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrdc...

Good Night World

Tomorrow, for the first time in decades, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds playing in my hometown, Columbus. I've seen him in Detroit and in Cleveland, but still, this one will be special.

WOW. A teacher just told me, "I gave one of my 2nd grade (dyslexic) students your nature poetry prompt. He is reluctant to write because of challenges with spelling, but I suspect he’s gifted. I told him just to write and we’d sort out the spelling later. This is what he wrote."

@deadmilkmen.bsky.social you need a warning label on this one. Just about ran off the road today laughing about the great butt-spoon of Hunan Province... www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRYO...

Yeah, and what did they get for it? Ask the administration at Columbia about that...

Just finished watching (for the first time in decades) the film version of the Who's TOMMY. Freaking amazing masterpiece.

I'm going to get to see Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in less than a month, and I still have a hard time accepting that Conway Savage will not be there. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EsI...

I know it's only April, but I'm calling 2025 early. The best novel of 2025 is THE GET OFF. It's dynamite--fast and gutsy and disturbing. Kudos to @christafaust.bsky.social and @hardcasecrime.bsky.social on this one! If you are a fan of noir and crime fiction, don't sleep on this one.

@christafaust.bsky.social "it was a lot like getting stitches at the DMV." I sure as fuck hope you were proud of that line. You should be, because it's beautiful.
