A completely serious question. When people, and businesses, and institutions with the resources and reputation to stand firm…don’t, where does that leave this country. cc Paul, Weiss. And Columbia. And so many others

Soon it will be too late. Congress must act. Republicans deserve relentless protests and demands for their acquiescence to this man solidifying power to overrun our democracy.

For the love of all that's holy, yes!!

“If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.” A classic quote from Malcolm X, who was assassinated 60 years ago today.

Flying in the US is getting scarier by the day

Oh Oh well that is very bad

The wonderful Mike Luckovich

Serious question, because this is where we’re headed… Who’s going to hold Donald Trump and Elon Musk accountable if he defies court rulings? Who’s going to stop him?

Tell me you're redlining without telling me you're redlining

gritty has seized control of the federal government

Idgaf I’m still fighting for guaranteed healthcare. Aspiration is the answer. Not just “we’re not the bad guys.” We need something more meaningful than that. I want a future worth fighting for. They have no vision. We do. Lean into our strengths and knock them out. 👊🏽

The Internet Archive has to date downloaded 500 terabytes of US government websites, which it crawls at the end of every presidential term. The whole archive is fully searchable. This effort's housed by a donation-funded nonprofit, not a branch of the US government. blog.archive.org/2024/05/08/e...

This is what the government did with 120K+ Japanese Americans in 1942. I know. I was there in those camps.

“Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.” Diary of Anne Frank January 13, 1943

If you’re in an institution doing any kind of DEI work, the most important thing to do right now is simply call it something else. Change it to “Community Outreach” & then keep on doing the same important work. When they outlaw Community Outreach rebrand it as “Strategic Partnerships,” rinse/repeat.

Costco is one of the few corporations that has not kissed the ring. They don’t allow guns in their stores either!

I don't know what anyone else is doing for the Inauguration—or MLK Day—this Monday, but AOC should start running for president.

"OptumRx, the group’s pharmacy benefit manager, along with its two main peers, Express Scripts and CVS Caremark Rx, have pocketed an extra $7.3 billion over cost thanks to price gouging, according to the findings of a report by the Federal Trade Commission." Lina Khan really is That Girl.

Die Welt is a very conservative newspaper. For its opinion editor to resign over an op-ed means all sorts of red lines have been crossed. The AfD is not just a right-wing party. It is so extreme that even figures like France’s Le Pen and Italy’s Salvini won’t work with it

Get the most out of the holidays by sitting back and letting the overwhelming sadness take over.

when I was a kid I heard another kid arguing about why he had to do service for others in the gurudwara and his parent was like "if you won't help others what is the point of you" and I've never forgotten that line.

One Grinch is equal to 0.0254 Grmeters, that's just Christmas math

Literally none of the headlines about the woman burned alive on the subway include the fact that at least one NYPD officer looked on and did nothing. So a reminder: - Cops feel zero obligation to protect you - Press can't be trusted to hold cops accountable, they're effectively the police PR wing

Well done RollingStone for reporting it accurately.

The main argument for a Strategic BItcoin Reserve seems to be that Bitcoin holders worry about an impending shortage of greater fools and need the US government to act as the greatest fool of last resort.

So hey, I'm quitting my job. January 17th. I'm a defense contractor. So far I've loved my job. I would stay here till I'm ready to retire... But I won't work for the American people. They've told me to fuck off... So I will. Good luck, y'all.

We recently obtained this tree ornament. Glad to see this crochet pattern sweeping the country.

I will never stop being aghast that the United States built a higher education system that was literally the envy of the entire world—our bitterest political enemies nonetheless sent their children to us to be educated, it was so good—& then just decided to systematically, ruthlessly dismantle it

This is what "blue no matter who" gets you.

It scares the living hell out of me that this sticky-fingered traitor will, for the second time, have unfettered access to our nation's most sensitive secrets. Here's hoping our national security agencies are taking the necessary precautions to protect classified information.

Trump’s trade guru, Peter Navarro, tried to bully career statisticians into changing how they measured deficits during Trump’s first term, but they resisted. Navarro is coming back for the second term. Their plan is to reduce and/or eliminate our deficit by changing its mathematical definition.

We're about to get an up close and personal look into how harmful the conservative approach to trans health is. This is why they've been working overtime to spread propaganda about the trans suicide rate. They are prepping you to ignore trans death and suffering.

Omg, SOLARPEC lives

If for NO REASON WHATSOEVER you woke up wanting a clickable/zoomable/hoverable map of ICE offices and detention facilities in the continental US, I've got ya. Preview image (not clickable) is below and here's the link. Sharing is caring! rawcdn.githack.com/chadtopaz/ic...

During this hectic season it’s so important to take a break and enjoy a ride on a purloined zamboni

If people moved from sub/exurbs to dense neighborhoods with good public/active transit, we'd use less energy for heating/cooling/driving, cut US climate pollution by 10-15%, and (IMO) lead happier lives closer to the people and places we enjoy. Good housing and good cities are good climate action.

i just emailed NYPD:

Yet this country prefers to have no coverage for its citizens Trumpedupcare will be the death of us all

Things you won’t see on Twitter.
