Is the dream of homeownership dead in Seattle?

Fantastic article. I find myself falling exactly into these traps during advocacy.

I received the same response to my email and just sent this reply

one-textbox survey from SDOT about adding 140 parking spaces to Alki Ave for traffic calming - due June 22 forms.office.com/Pages/Respon... Please consider telling SDOT that Alki needs traffic calming but does not need more waterfront parking. We suggest a treatment like Alki Point Healthy Street.

*heaviest of eye rolls* Remember when Moore, Rivera, and Nelson got elected to “be the adults in the room”? What have we had since then in #Seattle city council but bullying and bad governance? How is dropping last minute hugely consequential amendments on critical transit bills good leadership?

Katie has officially collected more vouchers than any other candidate in the race! Keep sending them our way! WilsonForSeattle.com www.seattle.gov/democracyvou...

How can we actually make the rent go down? Let’s talk about it with Katie! WilsonForSeattle.com

In case you need to know which Councilmembers to vote out, they’re the ones hiding from the public so they can lower the ethics rules that prevent them from voting to enrich themselves. And Sara Nelson not allowing opposing councilmembers, the ones still in the chamber, to speak?!? Unreal.

Excited to be endorsed by @tech4housing.bsky.social WilsonForSeattle.com

The biggest threat to Seattle’s tree canopy (according to the City’s own study) is the construction of single family homes. Middle housing is conducive to our climate & housing goals. Like so many anti-housing arguments, this too is a red herring.

And if you hurry, you might catch the WSBC Bike Everywhere station!

It’s affordable housing week! Katie Wilson answers the burning question on everyone’s mind: How is the housing crisis the hidden reason why your slice of pizza costs $8? WilsonForSeattle.com

As I think @spokanerising.com knows, because our mayor and most of our council fear bold action and change, and grasp at any reason to delay or water down the proposed code.

We need trees…but not public trees. We need affordable housing…but don’t put it there. Transit isn’t extensive enough yet to replace cars…but expansion is a boondoggle. Homelessness is ruining the city…but treatment and housing is too expensive Seattle has a real follow through issue

This is insane. All great cities invest *heavily* in public, urban tree canopies. Leaving this to private homeowners to shoulder is both a dereliction by the city council and a nonsensical policy solution in light of climate change demands. #Seattle

ICYMI: The occasional tensions between housing & trees are often just a mask for the degree to which we're prioritizing cars. Instead of focusing on a tree here, a tree there, we could be transforming whole streets, neighborhoods, & the city: density, street trees, parks. Many cities have done it!

I was at this meeting (that's the back of my head, center of the photo). I was struck by one attendee who opposed limiting personal vehicles saying "well, you may not like breathing the exhaust from an F-150 on Pike St., but F-150s driving through the market is part of its history."

Come talk with Dionne Foster at our weekly meetup, tomorrow!

Can't take the Bremerton/Seattle fast ferry because my bike has fenders. @seattlebikeblog.com wrote about this in 2017 — how is this still a problem? Kitsap Transit employee showed me a prototype of a new bike hanger at the dock, so maybe it'll be fixed after eight years.

I live near Alaska Junction, I am excited for light rail (though alarmed at its cost), and I would welcome and will be pushing for dramatically increased density here.

🚨 Critical Action Alert! Take a quick second and SIGN IN PRO for Transit-Oriented Development. This bill needs our support getting through the Senate Ways & Means committee. This is the last hurdle to clear before it reaches a final vote on the Senate floor! shorturl.at/JEjUa #HB1491 #WALeg

Cathy Moore Wants to Make it More Expensive to Build Middle Housing Moore says imposing fees on small developments in former single-family areas would not depress new housing development, contradicting the city's own analysis publicola.com/2025/04/01/c...

Restrictions no more! Today, I signed an ordinance removing height restrictions in downtown #Spokane. This will result in the creation of much-needed housing options at all income levels, along with job creation and economic development throughout downtown. @spokanecity.org

Want to know why new multi family buildings in Seattle look *like that*? In part, it's because our design review boards demand it.

This week 68 local elected officials sent a letter calling on our WA Legislature and Governor to pass new revenue measures. You know who isn’t on the list? Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell. www.investwanow.org/press-releas...
