Important advice from the friend of Frodo (Bishop Flores). “Choose your teachers wisely.”

Trump: "We all know the Prime Minister of the UK and we just signed a document...So we have our trade agreement with the European Union." The UK is not a member of the European Union.

"Humanity is diminished whenever the unborn or the undocumented, the unemployed. or the unhealthy are excluded, uninvited. or unwelcome, or whenever we tell ourselves they are of no concern to us (6-15-25)." #CardinalCupich #PrayForAmerica

Beautiful and profound @bpdflores.bsky.social (Bishop Flores) 🧵 for Trinity Sunday—and every day. Cc: @catholickungfu.bsky.social

Despicable.

I would like to know how, day after day, Dr. Heather Cox Richardson writes so clearly and eloquently. Her “Letter from an American” from Friday (June 13) is a wonderful example, reminding us of the history of the U.S. Army and its anti-tyranny founding purpose. @hcrichardson.bsky.social

Husband: Do you think the dinosaurs at the zoo will eat our food? Kids: No! Kid 1: Because they're just pretend dinosaurs. Kid 2: Because last time we saw the dinosaurs we had food and they didn't eat it. For anyone who needs a deductive vs inductive reasoning example for their methods class.

Important @atticus59914029.bsky.social thread on Trump’s authoritarian push for mass deportation. As Atticus notes, it’s not about criminals, it’s targeting any undocumented person in a a major US city. Horrific and wrong.

This is absurd and should be an embarrassing moment for the House GOP. And how will Trump-supporting Catholics react? Probably crickets.

The House Committee on Homeland Security is investigating the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and Catholic Charities USA for allegedly having "used taxpayer dollars to facilitate illegal activity" by migrants (ie, providing care to migrants and refugees). www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/264743/...

Great turnout of close to 5,000 for today’s #NoKings rally here in Howard County, Maryland. This is what democracy looks like! #Resist @50501movement.bsky.social @indivisiblehocomd.bsky.social

I preached about the Holy Trinity, which is to say I preached about pretty much everything, including Pope Leo XIV’s remarks last week about the Holy Spirit opening borders and rejecting the “exclusionary mindset that, tragically, we now see emerging also in political nationalisms.”

Honestly I still can’t stop laughing 😂😅🤣

This is an insightful and important thread, and connects things we've seen as DC residents over the decades.

Some thoughts about the military parade in my hometown of Washington DC today -- specifically, the route. Military parades in DC are quite rare. But when they happen, they have always begun, symbolically and geographically, at the Capitol and moved outward. 1/

The 250th birthday of the U.S. Army should have been a fun event for all Americans to honor our military through the ages. Soldiers from every political party have fought in that uniform. Sadly, Trump has made it so that the entire event is seen as a MAGA event. That’s truly sad.

In America, we have no Kings, no Queens, no nobles, no dictators, and no emperors. We have no slaves, no serfs and no subjects. Just us—‘We the People.’

Congratulations to the US Army on its 250th birthday. Regrettably Trump has hijacked and perverted the celebration with the military parade. Read this excellent gift article by former West Point professor who resigned due to Trump's changes to service academies. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

1/ 2 Two days ago, a sitting US Senator—who is on Immig subcomm (so DHS sec should have recognized him), who called out his name and ID (so thugs should have backed off), who was in his home state & city, who is son of Mex immigs and is MIT grad—was forced to ground by brownshirts and handcuffed.

A compelling ad against Trump’s deportations. youtu.be/1B8XY8RywXs?...

Fox hosts, parroting DHS, claimed Sen. Padilla "ran at,” "lunged at," and tried to “bum-rush” Kristi Noem. Video disproves their claims, showing Padilla standing calmly across the room asking his question as security grabs him.

I can’t event summarize it. Listen to it. This gives me anxiety.

As I noted in today’s post, this really was the most egregious thing that happened in LA yesterday and that’s saying an awful lot

Anthony Daniels (C-3PO's actor) visited my grad-school robotics lab when C-3PO was inducted into the Robot Hall of Fame, and he was very friendly and generous with his time. It was very disarming that his normal chatting voice is basically C-3PO, but then he's *not* annoying or neurotic at all IRL.

The Israelis are calling this a "preemptive" strike. Whether you agree or disagree with this attack, these are not - from what we know tonight - "preemptive" strikes. The Israelis are using that word for a reason. Read on. /1

This is a lie. We all saw the video. The Senator clearly identified himself, and he did not "lunge" toward anyone.   If these miserable propagandists will lie to you about roughing up a U.S. Senator in a room full of reporters, what won't they lie to you about?

Agree on both points. 1) States control most criminal prosecutions. Calif state charges for physical assault OF A US SENATOR in state's biggest city. 2) Dems in US Senate need to stand up on this one. This didn't happen even in days Faubus/Wallace/Maddox/Bull Conner resisted fed authority in 60s

If this is how this administration responds to a Senator with a question, you can only imagine what they're doing to farmworkers, to cooks, and to day laborers throughout California and across the country. We will hold this administration accountable.

As the videotapes clearly show, Noem is lying. Padilla is clearly identifying himself as a senator before he he is thrown to the ground and handcuffed. www.mediaite.com/media/news/p...

holy shit -- GOP Rep. Mike Turner tries to "help out" Hegseth by getting him to confirm that the Pentagon does not in fact have plans to take Greenland by force, but Hegseth instead more or less testifies that yep, they have devised plans for that

It’s true, as many have suggested, that if they can do this to Sen. Padilla, they can do it to others. I’d only add that they already have been doing this to others. A mass deportation regime, sooner rather than later, becomes contemptuous of civil liberties and basic decency.

Afterwards, Sen. Padilla framed what happened in exactly the right way: "If this is how the Department of Homeland Security responds to a senator with a question...I can only imagine what they're doing to farmworkers, to cooks, to day laborers, in Los Angeles & throughout California & the country."

I was chief of staff to a Cabinet secretary and vice president. I have a high opinion of the various federal protective services and personnel with whom I worked. But the fish rots from the head down. Today’s thuggish behavior in LA is just one of the many corrupting effects of Trump and Trumpism.

Today they have crossed a deep red line. We, the people, must hold the president and his appointees accountable for this outrageous abuse against American liberty.

PADILLA: “If this is how the administration responds to a Senator with a question, you can only imagine what they're doing to farmworkers, cooks, and day laborers throughout the country.”

"It's gonna be patriotic and wonderful. Nothing like a military parade" -- North Korean news anchors would blush over Fox & Friends' gushing about Trump's military parade

This does feel like important context!

Congratulations and thanks to @jayrosen.bsky.social Worth reading whole long thread.

This is disgraceful, I dare say impeachable—it’s a high crime for the Commander-in-Chief to turn the opinion of troops against other Americans. It can lead to the use of troops against Americans as we are already seeing in LA.
