Global markets for oil are already spiking based on this news. We are in for an oil shock and that means the price of everything is about to get more expensive, non-renewable energy will be less reliable, and stagflation at-best is guaranteed. #EconSky #EnergySky #AcademicSky

A real war just broke out in the Middle East bc of his incompetence and recklessness and Trump is going to have a military parade for his birthday.

Sourcing the dispute to Padilla even when the video proves Padilla is right is an explicit endorsement of the White House's credibility by a news organization

Speaking as an oil shock specialist, this is going to really make the whole trade war & global economic situation much worse. And that's before getting into whatever horrors are about to be unleashed by this conflict. #EconSky

I'm sure that will make up for the incoming supply chain crisis and inflation that will follow hard on its heels. Somehow.

Just to recap, Trump has taken the extraordinary step of federalizing 2000 member of the California National Guard — over the objections of the state’s governor — in response to a protest that currently involves A FEW DOZEN PEOPLE AT A HOME DEPOT

The federal government is moving to take over the California National Guard and deploy 2,000 soldiers. That move is purposefully inflammatory and will only escalate tensions.

The intentional destruction of US science and academia by Trump and the GOP continues to accelerate. www.cnn.com/2025/06/06/p...

I'm sure this will be comforting to #Tesla shareholders.

Happy Musk vs Trump day for all those celebrating.

It looks like Tesla stocks had a little dead-cat bounce in the past hour that now looks like it is losing steam. #TeslaTakedown

Some fascinating reading on the economics of energy transition, how improvements in renewables have consistently outpaced most models, and ways we can mitigate serious disruption in the months & years ahead. #EconSky #ClimateSky

This is what economists call a leading indicator. In these case, it's a very bad one.

A great example of how a combination of carbon taxes & direct incentives ushered in widespread adoption of more efficient, climate-friendly technology. #EconSky #ClimateSky

Burn oil, heat planet, burn forests, shut down oil.

The Soviet Union tried this. It didn't work, but they certainly tried it with far more intelligent, trained, & capable people than Trump et al.

Solar in the UK hits a new milestone! The biggest bit, which foreshadows the future of energy and economics, is the same amount of energy generated by natural gas would've cost £600m. Those are the kind of cost-savings that make renewables so potent, no matter what Trump says. #ClimateSky #EconSky

Sorry Hank but you're off the mark here. Climate change is, to be sure, a product of accumulated social & technological processes. BUT When Exxon-Mobil's scientists proved it was a thing in the 1970s & that carbon was to blame, they decided to spend around $1T since then fighting the solutions.

If the AI industry truly is a bubble then an actively fraudulent actor going bust fits the general pattern of other bubbles in history. The same thing happened with crypto. The most obvious & least secure con artists are always the first to go in a bubble burst. #EconSky #AI #Crypto

I'd love to see Lutnick spin this.

Here's the thing: Even if Lutnick wasn't pulling a real Lutnick here, it still wouldn't matter. Imports have slumped to lower levels than were seen during the height of COVID lockdowns. US tourism is the only major tourism industry on the planet that's facing a real downturn. #EconSky

Says the man whose government *still* hasn't passed a budget and seems to think that tariff yoyo is sound policy. Watch this space, if Trump et al keep living down to their record then Bessent will be eating these words right after the rest of us are forced to. #EconSky

Electric propulsion now dominates global ferry orders, with 70% of new vessels featuring batteries. Already operating on about 200 ferries worldwide, this shift to batteries means reduced emissions and lower maintenance costs. buff.ly/HPfes4P #ShareGoodNewsToo

I sincerely hope that leaders in the state legislature like @scottwiener.bsky.social are taking notice and ensuring that California stands up for the right thing, regardless of what Gavin Newsom thinks.

Funny how most Waymos I've seen in San Francisco tend to have no passengers, stop randomly, and fail to make way for emergency vehicles. Oh and the company still isn't close to profitable.

It is mind blowing how many Democratic policymakers (even really good ones!) still believe that increasing fossil-fuel production will lower domestic electricity prices. 🧵

Just in case anyone thought the tariffs are an abstract question, please consider the very real consequences that are already being felt. Plant shutdowns are just the beginning of what's coming.

This is a very fascinating piece with significant implications for how climate adaption & renewable adoption driven at the local & state level is still a viable path forward.

That's a drop which includes the COVID contraction. Buckle up, this one is gonna be a doozie. #EconSky

Imposing a tax on housing dollars is exactly the kind of thing that will accelerate the demise of the dollar as a reserve currency & instrument of international trade. This is some pretty explicit dedollarization stuff compared to the implicit signs I discussed yesterday. #EconSky

I would like to see journalists start calling this what it is and to stop pretending this government & POTUS have it together. They're fools and frauds who have proven how little they know about economic policy & how badly out of touch they are with reality. #EconSky

This should surprise no one.

There’s your empty shelf. US goods imports drop 19.8% in April — largest on record

The flood of encomiums and morality tales about Elon's turn in Washington cldn't be more predictable, vapid & sickening. If you want a story, get me the story about the crisis comms team directing this. He ran anti-constitutional blitzkrieg thru the federal government, did massive harm, violated ...
