BHL has been experiencing a significant increase in traffic. Users may be experiencing intermittent service disruptions. If you're downloading data & don't want to put additional pressure on BHL systems, here's how to do that: about.biodiversitylibrary.org/ufaqs/how-do... Thank you!

I think this is happening to @biodivlibrary.bsky.social at the moment 😞

'“I don't think that people appreciate how few people are working to keep these collections online, even at huge institutions,” Weinberg told me. “It's usually an incredibly small team, one person, half a person, half a person, plus, like their web person who is sympathetic to what's going on.'

Thanks to all who have expressed a willingness to support FlyBase. The wheels of bureaucracy are large and grind slowly. We expect to have a fee process in place by July. @flybase.bsky.social

I know that we've already reached AGI because I keep turning off all the AI companions on my software but they always mysteriously turn themselves back on.

Some of the themes about #GenAI and @inaturalist.bsky.social also come up in discussing maps, e.g. Google versus @openstreetmap.bsky.social , see forum.inaturalist.org/t/use-openst... The choice between for-profit company versus open and "free" is often complicated.

Looks like @inaturalist.bsky.social has got itself caught in the #GenAI storm. iNat uses AI already for it's image and geography based identification, so I imagine they feel they've been hit by a truck after announcing what on the face of it is this sponsorship by Google.
