Yes, Mission Impossible, but Lalo Schifrin also gave us the greatest album title of all time.

Excluding non-DC-originated characters like Captains Marvel and Atom… Superman Batman The Joker The Spectre Dr Fate Green Lantern Hawkman Manhunter (Paul Kirk) Darkseid Big Barda Honourable mention for the Doom Patrol

#NowPlaying Includes the Johnny Hodges showcase Isfahan, one of the loveliest pieces of music ever recorded.

The density and extent of the genius present in these two collections is absolutely staggering.

Possibly stretching the definition of news, but it’s this: youtu.be/2WoDQBhJCVQ?...

In the late 60s, Frank Sinatra, in an effort to stay relevant, started covering songs like For Once in My Life and Born Free. Macao is like that: a supreme stylist with an indelible signature (Josef von Sternberg) being given material utterly unsuited to him.

#NowPlaying The time is right. Poolside perfect (now to locate a pool).

Prompted by this, played the first Dire Straits album again. It remains one of the great debuts, and though the first side of Making Movies is my favourite, this is end-to-end brilliant.

I may have changed someone’s life this evening. As I was collecting in the groceries from my supermarket delivery, the driver asked with real interest what the music I was playing was. I introduced him to Steely Dan and directed him to Aja.

Tom Cruise looks good for his age.

Woke up on this sunny morning with this earworm, one of the purest distillations of sunshine in popular music. youtu.be/wzw-mcIJpbI?...

John Farrow’s Where Danger Lives has its issues: Mitchum initially plays his role light, his ironic tine undercutting noir dread; Faith Domergue’s ginger performance and slight lisp hobble her attempt to portray a crazed noir femme; and the ending is virtually watermarked “Studio mandated”. 1/2
