I'm thrilled to learn my friend Gayathri has a new book coming from Bloomsbury on August 30! A GENRE OF HER OWN highlights the literary beginnings of modern India through the works of women writers. Gayathri is an incredible writer – I'm still delighted she gave the cover quote for Proud Pink Sky!

Being shortlisted for the Bristol Short Story Prize means a whole lot to me – I'm so proud to be included in the anthology for 2025. I've read editions from previous years and it's always filled with so many amazing stories! Fingers crossed for the final on the 28th! ⭐

‘Borderline’ takes us on a journey of self-exploration. In a divided Berlin, the main character must face the dangers of embracing all aspects of their identity or forever feel incomplete. 📚 Catch @redfernjon.bsky.social's story in our anthology and meet all our shortlisted writers: bit.ly/4dZRhIB

Saying everyone is either a man or a woman is like saying everyone is either right or left handed. For most people it’s true. But some of us are ambidextrous, or cross-dominant (like me). A rough binary that seems right at a glance will never cover everyone. The world is more complex than that.

Today I’m going with an enby blue and silver eyeshadow – matching this ancient shirt that predates me coming out as nonbinary! And the best thing about coming out is all the extra colour it’s added to my life! 💙🩶🤍🩵🤍🩶💙

I'm not great at drawing, but sometimes I feel inspired. Today I drew a scene from my novel PROUD PINK SKY. 'Last House on the Edge' shows William and Gareth's home in the gay metropolis – a cottage on the edge of a rooftop. Do any other writers ever draw scenes from their books? #writing #lgbtq

It’s a public holiday here in Berlin, so what am I doing? Meeting my friend @cmichaelis.bsky.social to do some editing! No rest for wicked writers…

Having a rough Monday at work? I once had a roommate who wrote an entire article for the Independent saying we should trust Ivanka Trump as a liberal and moderating force in the Trump administration. Take comfort in the fact that you won't be making a mistake that embarrassing today.

Today’s repost of #PrideMonth #BookSky recommendations are wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey alternate universes and not-quite-our-worlds to explore. Check out @redfernjon.bsky.social and @thesansan.bsky.social—and then thank some quantum version of me at a later date.

Unreasonably excited to have @lindseytheartist.bsky.social here visiting me in Berlin!

Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈 Polari was a gay slang that was in use for centuries – mixing Italian, Romani, Yiddish, and even Cockney terms. It died out in the 1960s, as homosexuality was legalised. In my novel PROUD PINK SKY, it's the official language of the gay state. I even wrote poetry in Polari! 📝

Absolutely fantastic news from my publisher – who's been named INDIES Publisher of the Year by Foreword Reviews! 🌈📚 Bywater Books (alongside the imprint I'm published with, Amble Press) has an amazing range of books and are incredibly supportive of their authors. This is more than deserved! 🎉

I can’t help but notice that every single time an LGBTQ+ person is killed in a high-profile hate crime, masses of people immediately rush in to explain why it could not possibly have been a hate crime, actually.

Honestly my favourite thing about Pride Month is the sheer number of amazing book recommendations that flourish all over Bluesky! 🏳️‍🌈 READ QUEER BOOKS 🏳️‍⚧️ You get to experience new worlds, fresh dramas, and exciting mysteries – all while supporting LGBTQ+ creators. It’s win-win!

Hi to all the new followers! I'm a queer author with two novels out: PROUD PINK SKY is set in the world's first gay state, while THE GIDDY DEATH is all about polyamory and nonbinary life. I also love make up! The more colour the better! You can read more about me and my work at redjon.com

Jonathan Joss was Comanche and Apache and an openly gay actor. He was murdered while looking at the remains of his dogs at his own house that was burnt down. The killer yelled homophobic slurs before shooting him. This is the real world consequences of the hatred that the right commodifies

The paper book vs. e-book debate has been going on for 20 years now. 20 years! Just use both! Paper books look lovely on a shelf. Ebooks are fantastic for finding indie authors. Paper is great for reading in a comfy armchair. Ebooks are perfect for reading in bed. It's yet another false binary.
