Back online after a brief hiatus. Feeling like I can have a voice again now that my Green Card has been approved. I just need you US citizens who have actual free speech rights to hit the streets!

A New Hampshire man with a green card was detained by immigration officers at Logan Airport and is being held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the Donald W. Wyatt detention facility in Central Falls, Rhode Island. www.nhpr.org/nh-news/2025...

I generally don't support violence as an answer to our problems. But I also know that sometimes it is the only language that a bully can understand. So, if all else fails, be prepared to punch that Nazi. #NaziPunching

So true

These optics! Trump appears to serve at the pleasure of the billionaires.

The DOGE method is clear: with maximum speed, get control of key systems and data, then use that control to strip down entire departments back to the studs. The legal resistance is slow. I’m waiting to see if the new admin will follow judicial orders. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

This “darkest timeline” take was really sobering. Foresight says that the future unfolds through a “cone of possibility”. But when the darkest scenario starts to sound not only plausible but probable, it’s time to wake up. Watch, but have your self-care tools handy.

follow @mmasnick.bsky.social -- trust me, we have seen this entire playbook before, and nothing about it is new or novel

I’m trying very hard to not be triggered by every outrage. But I think it is already clear: they are 100% following the Project 2025 blueprint. Add in the Elon effect for additional chaotic energy and it pretty much is the worst case scenario.

Since the election, I shifted my media habits, from echo chamber rage-baiting “fast media” to more thoughtful “slow media” that steps back from the brink. This episode of The Bulwark is a great example. Thanks @timmiller.bsky.social & @hcrichardson.bsky.social youtu.be/qMQSs45oXow?...

Bye bye 2024, I won't miss you. But I am proud of or excited by some of what occurred this year, so I attempted to document that. made-not-found-by-danah-boyd.ghost.io/bye-bye-2024...

Two things can be true: 1) those seeking to shrink or destroy the administrative state are incompetent fools & grifters, and… 2) there is enormous waste of resources in how the public sector delivers value to the public The resistance should not defend the latter while attacking the former.

Hello snowy #Toronto. Good to be back for a few days to reconnect with the team in person. Say hi 👋

"This is a historic moment, but I don't want to experience this kind of history" has been the thought most present in my head since 2016

Very heartened by the response of South Koreans to protect their democracy.

Enjoy. Or, not. www.theatlantic.com/newsletters/...

One of the hallmarks of this era is the frequent appointment of people who could not get hired in any capacity to work *for* federal agencies to run them.

“While Silicon Valley has always wielded influence in American politics, what's emerging now is different – a world where the interests of select technology companies become indistinguishable from US government policy.” techpolicy.press/on-the-comin...

We need to get serious about environmental plastic.

Six decades later, Star Trek may still be the only franchise based on the ideas that diversity is strength, justice is the measure of civilization, bounty is to be shared, peace is worth the price, and all these things can be achieved. We need more shows that look ahead and find goodness.

Thank you @davidmoscrop.com for this review,"an impressive + essential read for understanding the 🇨🇦 economy + the state of competition within it. It’s concise + comprehensive...prose is crisp, the argument is compelling + the support evidence is rage-inducing" www.theglobeandmail.com/arts/books/r...

"If the science of psychedelics gets tangled up with the anti-science agenda around vaccines or fluoride, that could do long-term damage to psychedelics. Psychedelics should be approved because the science is good, not because they have a fan in the White House." www.politico.com/news/magazin...

Threads is an echo chamber on the left, Twitter on the Right, I hope this stays a sane normal place where some disagreement can be politely explored. Too much to ask??

Sam Harris makes some liberals angry by questioning the wisdom of centring politics on identity. The facts and results of the recent US election need to reckoned with. I believe this is an important listen, if uncomfortable for progressive orthodoxy. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/m...

I want my Bluesky feed to be a thoughtful civic space where differences coexist and where people are open to changing their minds to new information. I want currency and relevance but I don’t need to react to every trigger or harbinger of doom. And I want it to be joyful, kind, passionate and sexy.

This is exciting…

Agreed! I would pay a premium for quality, community, safety and control over my social graph free of manipulation and algorithmic advertising. I remember the good old days of early Twitter, where community thrived. @bsky.app

I’m just starting to understand what it means to learn at the age of 54 that I have #ADHD. Not formally diagnosed yet, but the more I read the more makes sense. I told my husband stories I had buried in shame - school, academic, work and relationship fails that now make sense. I didn’t expect grief.

Hey kids we brought @pivotpod.bsky.social over too. bsky.app/profile/pivo...

Where are the Bluesky #strategicdesign, #servicedesign #designresearch and #foresight peeps at? #productdesign and #ux - I see you! 👀

Signed off of news for a while. But signs of our times and reminders of authoritarianism are hard to avoid. I will watch Cabaret for the nth time.

I figure my first post on Bluesky should be something I love. My boy Ernie. #airedaleterrier
