Tune in for this week’s update from Capitol Hill where I spoke against the Trump Administration’s proposed cuts to the national suicide prevention hotline, sat down with constituents visiting DC to discuss federal issues, & voiced my concern for the Republican attacks on colleges and universities.

Dr. Carla Hayden has led the Library of Congress for the past nine years with expertise and oversaw historic progress including efforts to digitize materials to make them more accessible and celebrate diverse histories (1/2).

Since early March, the Netanyahu government has been blocking all humanitarian aid to Gaza, which has exacerbated the already horrific conditions faced by Palestinian children and civilians (1/2).

With Mother’s Day approaching this weekend, I went through a scrapbook my own mom created for me with articles from the Contra Costa Times. It’s a trip down memory lane to see these articles, but also a reminder of how lucky I was to have a mom who was a cheerleader throughout my life.

We’ve hosted a flurry of meetings in our DC office this week including sitting down with leaders from the City of Antioch, ALCU of Northern California, and higher education administrators from California universities (1/2).

Refineries here in Contra Costa County are at the center of the energy transition and represent hazardous material sites in our community. I talked about the role of regulatory oversight at today’s @transportdems.bsky.social hearing.

The Republican budget attempts to slash programs that millions of Americans rely on (1/2).

At today’s @democrats-edworkforce.house.gov hearing, I expressed concern over the Republican attacks on federal programs that investigate and protect against discrimination including antisemitism and islamophobia.

LGBTQ+ kids are disproportionately dying by suicide, but unconscionably President Trump wants to cut the specialized LGBTQ+ services at the suicide prevention hotline. I spoke on the House floor against this immoral move and will continue to speak out until the President reverses course.

Happy Cinco De Mayo CA-10! Today marks the Mexican army’s victory at the Battle of Puebla, but the holiday also marks a chance to celebrate the resilience and culture of the Mexican American community.

Perhaps President Trump hasn’t visited Alcatraz or doesn’t know its history? The prison was closed more than six decades ago, his proposal to reopen it is laughable.

I’m always grateful for the chance to thank our public servants educating our young people here in California and across the country. As we kick off Teacher Appreciation Week, I encourage you to think of a teacher who had a lasting impact on you and thank them (1/2).

CA-10 has a vibrant and diverse AANHPI community. Join me in celebrating their contributions and culture this Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage month (1/2).

I’m proud to represent part of the San Francisco Bay – Delta estuary, which serves as a recreation site, provides clean water, and supports the Bay Area economy (1/3).

On May Day, I stand in solidarity with working people across the country as we continue the fight to secure workers’ rights, like fair wages and collective bargaining, especially as they are under attack by the Trump Administration. @laborcaucus.house.gov

This week in DC, my committees started the next step in the Republicans’ process of slashing the budget to pay for tax breaks for big corporations. Tune in to hear more about that and my thoughts on President Trump’s continued reckless actions that are raising costs for the American people.

Unfortunately, we have to postpone the Environmental Town Hall slated for May 3rd. We’ll get it back on the books as soon as possible, so stay tuned for more info!

At yesterday’s @transportdems.bsky.social hearing I introduced several amendments, including one to support funding for EV charging infrastructure (1/2).

My Republican colleagues claim to back states’ rights while trying to strip California of its authority to curb air pollution to keep us and the environment safe. This power grab is dangerous & hypocritical, and I stood up for Californians by voting NO today on the House floor.

In his first 100 days, President Trump has advanced one of the most anti-worker agendas in history. My @laborcaucus.house.gov colleagues & I are fighting back by leading legislation that supports collective bargaining rights and creates safer workplaces (1/2).

When it comes to public health and environmental protections, California leads the way. I spoke on the House Floor today in opposition to my Republican colleagues’ efforts to undermine California’s clean air standards. This was not a partisan issue in the 1980s and it should not be now.

The Trump Administration has been dismantling protections from discrimination for students, including those with disabilities (1/2).

Health care is a human right. I’m proud to again join my colleagues in reintroducing #MedicareForAll to guarantee this right under law and ensure no one in the richest country on earth cannot afford care.

After 100 days in office, President Trump continues his illegal blocking of more than $430 billion in funding that is owed to the American people to help keep them safe and healthy (1/2).

In California, we’ve seen firsthand the devastating effects of climate change from devastating wildfires to more extreme temperatures. Amid this climate crisis, the Trump Administration is rolling back environmental protections (1/3).

Did you know that our office can provide assistance if you run into issues with a federal agency? From passports to Social Security, our district team is happy to assist where we can (1/2)!

By targeting the National Labor Relations Board, the Trump Administration is attacking American workers who rely on the independent agency to support their right to collective bargaining and protect them from unfair labor practices (1/2).

The John Muir Earth Day Birthday event in Martinez has been a community favorite for years. We were excited to join and recognize this year’s John Muir Conservation Award winners for their dedication to protecting the environment and service to our community.

Happy Independent Bookstore Day to readers across CA-10! While on a quick trip in Southern California last week, I checked out Small World Books in Venice Beach, which had a great selection and perfect “Eat, Sleep, Read, Local” sign (1/2).

I joined the San Ramon Valley Council of PTAs at their annual legislative day to share about how the Administration’s recent actions will impact students around the country and here in the East Bay, particularly students with disabilities (1/2).

I’m wrapping up a busy two weeks in the East Bay where we’ve held two town halls and met with constituents around the district I represent. Heading back to DC next week, I will bring these perspectives to the House floor and continue to hold the Administration accountable.
