I was 8. It was Balto meets Beauty and the Beast. Literally. Disney sent a nice rejection note to my handwritten pitch letter, so I directed it at home. I still want to write for you someday, Disney!

Excellent stuff here!

What’s your comfort show?

From @storyandplot.bsky.social This is great!

What’s a movie you think nobody but you and a handful of people have heard of, that you think is a fantastic film? #ScriptSky

Tomorrow, Weds May 14 at 5pm PST, free writers zoom where we’ll turn ourselves into a writers room to break a pilot. Hope to see you all there! If you aren’t on mailing list, DM me your email and I’ll add you today!

Do I know anyone who works with or has a connection to The Sundance Institute or their Collab community? #scriptsky #filmsky

The magic phrase every screenwriter needs: 'I'll take a look at that.' Not 'yes' or 'no' — just breathing room. When an exec gives you a note that makes your stomach drop, this buys you time to find a solution you both love instead of a reaction you'll both regret. #scriptsky

Related but separate…what if someone sings only the title of a song, like “Bye Bye Bye”? Since it’s the title, would that fall under fair use? #ScriptSky

Five romance movies to get to know me: - Pride and Prejudice - Greencard - While You Were Sleeping - The Princess Bride - The Holiday And if bromance counts…Master and Commander, lol

For my fictional podcast, the TV series Frontier House that I loved as a kid.

Love this thread on hooks in writing!

Applying to TV writing programs like NBC or Paramount? The writing samples you submit can make or break your application. After reviewing thousands of submissions, here's what truly makes samples stand out (and what makes us reject them immediately). 🧵⤵️

10 years ago, I tried to write an hour-long drama. My manager sent me a memo on how to write drama that David Mamet wrote to his writing staff. The memo wasn’t quite enough to save my lousy script, but it did teach me some helpful QUESTIONS TO ANSWER IN EVERY SCENE. 🧵1/x #Scriptsky #Screenwriting

I’m thrilled to be working with Sam to bring a teaser of my script to life!! If you know of any great, female-identifying voice actors, please pass this along. #PodSky #ScriptSky

When I worked on The Office, Greg Daniels had a list of questions he asked of every story. Some were show-specific (eg “Are we saying something truthful if exaggerated about office life?”), but many are applicable to any script. Here’s a little thread on them… 🧵1/X #Scriptsky #Screenwriting

This is truly disappointing. While every contest has its drawbacks, Nicholl really moved the needle and inspired a wide range of writers—not just college students and people who can drop $200 for a crapshoot. Please reconsider, @theacademyusa.bsky.social

I've watched promising writers tank their careers in a single meeting. The cause? Getting defensive during notes sessions. Here's the industry truth about handling criticism. 🧵⤵️

If you support diverse stories, here’s a chance to put your money where your mouth is! I’ve spoken with the filmmakers behind this for one of my WIP’s, and they’re the real deal. #ScriptSky #BlackHistory

This looks amazing! If I were available all of these dates, I’d definitely apply. #ScriptSky

My favorite genres are: 1. Historical women shattering conventions. 2. Swords. Way too many swords. 3. A good person changing a jerk for the better. 4. A jerk becoming a hero in spite of themselves. 5. Amateur theater gone horribly wrong.

hello fellow followers of #scriptsky - want to know how i write action scenes and what it takes to make them pop? here’s my handy guide/tutorial/essay! okbjgm.weebly.com/uploads/3/1/...

This is a goldmine of advice! #ScriptSky

Just noticed that, among other things now gone, @coverfly.bsky.social is no longer using the claim placement feature. #ScriptSky

Tagging #ScriptSky because this is a helpful story!

No writer is a failure until they are dead. Full stop. A career in writing is built over decades. It's built like a house, brick by brick, book by book. Not published yet? Emphasis on YET. Book not selling? It's not selling YET. You're only done when you quit. And I don't think you're ready to quit

Write fearlessly. Write like your parents, your boss, your third grade teacher will never, ever read it. Write from the darkest, most private corners of your mind. Put yourself out there. The real you. The fearless you. That's where you keep the best and most real art. The art that can change us.

Ever wonder what’s it like to work in the writers room of a hit television show? Join us as we sit down with WGA screenwriter Danielle Nicki. Streaming now on YouTube @HWYWI . Link in bio.
