Padilla: I was forced to the ground, first on my knees and then flat on my chest. And as I was handcuffed and marched down a hallway repeatedly asking, why am I being detained? Not once did they tell me why. I pray you never have a moment like this

From Tim Walz’s spokesman: Governor Walz wishes that President Trump would be a President for all Americans, but this tragedy isn’t about Trump or Walz. It’s about the Hortman family, the Hoffman family, and the State of Minnesota, and the Governor remains focused on helping all three heal.

@smith.senate.gov: "I think [Mike Lee] was sort of stunned to be coming face to face with somebody who was really calling him out on his bullshit... The way that people like Mike Lee and others on the right take advantage of the worst kind of human tragedy and political violence... is unacceptable."

An Afghan man who worked as a translator for the U.S. military during the war was detained by ICE after showing up for a hearing inside of a federal courthouse in San Diego, his attorney says. He fears that if he returns to Afghanistan, he would be tortured or even killed, @nbcsandiego.com reports.

America is one of those countries where if you host a global sporting event, inclusive messages have to be censored to so as not to anger the central government. In this case the message is “racism is bad” www.nytimes.com/athletic/643...

I don't think anybody's quite gotten to the full Mike Lee story. He rarely talks in hallways, now posts conspiratorial stuff regularly, went from 2016 warning against Trump to working with members of his team ahead of 1/6/21. Lately a cheerleader for nixing NATO, Fed, impeaching judges, etc.

I just spoke with Rosalio, the uncle of Alexa Carrasco, who was hit by a driver during Saturday's protests in California. She is currently in a coma. He told me: "We don't want to give any type of response. We're concentrating on asking God to get her out." www.cbsnews.com/amp/losangel...

It was never about states rights

This is retaliation to massive and powerful labor strikes protesting new Panamanian gov policy that dismantles pensions for Banana workers. A reminder that Chiquita is rebranded United Fruit Company.

One of my pet peeves is how we use the word "ally" loosely in DC. It should only mean states to which we have a treaty-backed, legally binding mutual defense obligation. Israel is not one of those countries (despite it being popularly and routinely described as an American ally).

JUST IN (via WH press pool) #Trump talks w/ journos re: #Russia while mtg w/ #UK PM #Starmer: • Restarting talks w/ Russia: "They're starting already" • Sanctioning Russia: "Sanctions cost us a lot of money. When I sanction countries, that costs the US a lot of money, a tremendous amount of money"

Having President live tweeting this war probably isn’t the best idea

This parade was not about the 250th anniversary of the United States Army; it's an expensive birthday party for the Dear Leader. George Washington refused to politicize the Continental Army at this nation's founding, and presidents must sustain that tradition.

every day i gotta remind myself that when Christ said to feed the hungry, he wasn't talking about the algorithm.

Messy: NBC poll overwhelming wants Trump to obey Supreme Court rulings, Reuters poll finds Supreme Court is politically biased in public's view, court has super charged president's power to the point of near kingship and now Trump often stonewalls key decisions.

In some countries, like the UK, there’s a (relatively recent) tradition of letting the party of any lawmaker killed in an act of political violence run unopposed in the by-election. It lets people know violence cannot change the balance of power. It would be good for the US to do this.
