So, I did a thing. There are any number of reasons this could go south (i.e., because of ever changing life circumstances), but for the time being, I'm optimistic. I applied to, and was accepted by, the University of Maryland PhD program in music theory.

Why do all the people saying this act like we’ve never spent time around conservatives? I grew up with them. The maga dipshits have been around for almost a decade. Musk has owned twitter for years. Nothing good came out of being around them and I don’t need to constantly see their dumb opinions.
