This morning, I released the facts: 338 rural hospitals are at risk from the GOP's Big Ugly Bill. Trump’s Treasury Secretary said they’re “quite satisfied” with gutting Medicaid, Medicare, and the ACA. Patients losing care and workers losing jobs is not policy--it’s cruelty.

Returning to the traditional elite Republican position—immigrants are all right as long as they’ll work on white people’s plantations as essentially indentured servants

THIS A UNITED STATES SENATOR ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE OF CALIFORNIA BEING PHYSICALLY SHOVED OUT OF A MEETING ABOUT WHAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS DOING TO THE BIGGEST CITY IN OUR STATE.

But I was told that DOGE was going to dramatically slash the budget deficit by eliminating DEI grants and Politico subscriptions, firing staff at VA hospitals, and taking away life-saving HIV meds from impoverished African children.

Pete Hegseth, in a congressional hearing, just refused to commit to abiding by any court decisions about Marines in Los Angeles.

im so old i remember when texas conservatives said clinton and obama were gonna use the military to suppress their free speech

NEW OVERNIGHT: Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s attorneys ask Judge Xinis for severe sanctions against the Trump administration for violating court orders, saying officials stonewalled them for months, and outright lied. They want fines and an investigation. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Senate GOP nuked Senate rules in order to blow up California climate rules

The one big beautiful bill Is just a bill of destruction to our lands, and favoritism to the rich. Raise your voices for our country, and our way of life.

A guide to the 4 minerals shaping the world’s energy future. To address climate change, we're going to need a whole lot of metal. grist.org/energy/criti... #Mining #Cobalt #Lithium #Politics #Climate

Elon Musk gutted the federal government, dismantled key institutions, and cut off food and medicine to some of the poorest people on the planet. By leaving DOGE, he’s trying to restore his reputation and rescue his struggling businesses. He should never be allowed to recover.

"Paul Rand once wrote, “In essence, it is not what it looks like but what it does that defines a symbol.” The trouble with Jennings is that he both does and doesn’t resemble what he is. He appears engaged, sometimes affable, and occasionally passionate. What he does is simple: lie."

research shows that the economic benefits of immigration are such that any politician who can make this affirmative case is like capturing that meteor made of gold

Current discourse about immigration would improve 10,000% if every xenophobic, racist rant were met with an unblinking stare and these four words

One major climate solution is reducing the amount of energy used in homes and businesses, and swapping out fossil fuel appliances for electric ones. But doing this home by home is slow and expensive. Researchers tried something new: What if you overhaul a whole block at once? (@kqednews.kqed.org)

Yep. I hear folks in leisure and hotel biz are just loving the collapse of tourism into the US.

New CBO analysis of tax bill: “in general, resources would decrease for households toward the bottom of the income distribution, whereas resources would increase for households in the middle and top of the income distribution.”

People have heard of Shelby County, but I think there's still very little appreciation of the part of the right-wing judicial project that is cutting back Congressional power to enforce the Reconstruction Amendments

Abortion opponents are coming for mifepristone using ‘junk science’.

Someone reposted this in comments, and since 2018 feels like 400 yrs ago I had almost completely forgotten about it But, just here to say, this piece pissed off aaaaaaaaall of the goons and we were right about them and it’s a tragedy many are now national brainworms www.wired.com/story/inform...

What happened here is an example of the Trump administration “de-documenting” people. His workers all had work permits; it seems they were Nicaraguans who entered through CHNV parole. But the Trump admin stripped them of their status then rounded them up, making even his supporter mad.

Illinois follows the law — we expect the federal government to follow the law, too. We won't participate in abuses of power. We won't violate court orders. We won't ignore the Constitution. We won't defy the Supreme Court. We won't take away people’s right to peacefully protest.

We’re seeing things that are so unprecedented in American history that I think we shld reserve a lot of space for uncertainty abt public the direction of public opinion. That said, we’re seeing how ingrained certain assumptions are - police/soldiers in the mix, good for GOP

Talked to a federal prison officer today who is unhappy about the Trump budget impact on the living and working conditions for those in BOP: "They call it the Big Beautiful Bill but I don’t," he said. "I call it a slap in the face."

this should be the democratic message on immigration and not the "we're tough like the gop but not as mean" bs

The probable illegality and certain corruption should not cause us to overlook just how fucking tacky this is, as usual.

DELBENE: Do you support the govt having a consolidated database containing Americans' sensitive financial health and personal information? BESSENT: I support protecting Americans-- DELBENE: I think it's very concerning that you're not able to say no

June 12th is Loving Day, a holiday that commemorates the Loving v. Virginia case, which allowed interracial marriage in all parts of the U.S. NPR readers share how the case changed their lives.

EPA-targeted rules could prevent an estimated 30,000 deaths and save $275 billion each year they are in effect, according to an Associated Press examination. planetdetroit.org/2025/06/epa-...

just perfect

Be prepared and have the rapid response network phone number handy to report ICE activity especially if you live in/near the below listed cities. NBC reports ICE is expanding raids in the following cities: Seattle, Philadelphia, Chicago, NY and northern VA #Voices4Victory #UnmaskICE

I'm not worried. Conservative con law professors assured me this won't happen. #Satire www.nytimes.com/2025/06/10/u...

Excellent paper showing the effect of a 2010 Supreme Court decision that allowed looser gun laws. “States in the most permissive…firearm law categories experienced greater pediatric firearm mortality during the post–McDonald v Chicago era”. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

"Santa Maria, who voted for Trump in the 2024 election, says she'd hoped that his Department of Government Efficiency would bring technical expertise and upgrades to the Social Security Administration." www.npr.org/2025/06/12/n...

I'm not a polling expert but it seems to me that the 60% *disapproval* is more significant than the 39% approval. Even when POTUS approval is low, isn't there usually 5-10% who are undecided?

Possible to start to tell a unified story: "Trump is personally too old, crazy, and confused to run things, so at any given time the question is which co-president is in charge. At first it was Musk, & we got the crazy chaotic DOGE era. Then Navarro: a trade war that crashed markets. Now Miller..."

"Trump is using the Guard and the military to enforce his will, not the law....When rioters were on his side, he didn’t call in the Guard. He embraced the criminals, pardoned them, and purged the law enforcement officials who prosecuted them. He’s a despot and a scofflaw." -- @saletan.bsky.social

This will be a momentous vote to cede Constitutional power to Trump *and* will permanently kill USAID and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting

this is NUTS. Trump's pet dictator seems to have collaborated directly with MS-13, including persecuting his own law enforcement officials who were working with a US task force www.propublica.org/article/buke...

It’s completely insane that US troops are illegally deployed to suppress domestic opposition and it’s not uniformly condemned by the press and political elite.

DOD does not do security assistance in the homeland. Amateur hour.

Trump just admitted that his mass deportations are bad for farmers and the economy, and crucially, also admitted that workers who are getting deported are "almost impossible to replace." That's a massive repudiation of MAGA ideology:

Kristi Noem pressed Pete Hegseth to have the military arrest civilians A leaked letter from the DHS secretary shows her asking to have the military arrest demonstrators in Los Angeles.
