See also @alexwlchan.bsky.social's sensational "The Curb Cut Effect" from @monkigras.com 2019. Sometimes by making things better for a few people you end up making them better for everyone. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Yf3...

Meta's AI discover feed is (still!) leaking user conversations with its AI. With its scale/import in shaping people's perception of reality, it is hard to think of a worse actor in the AI space than Meta, or to imagine a more invasive, user-hostile product than this www.404media.co/meta-invents...

I've had conversations with a few friends who think WhatsApp is fine because of its encryption. That only holds if you trust the people who wrote the code you are running. People need to ask themselves why do they trust these sociopathic sleazeballs at all. www.theregister.com/2025/06/03/m...

I’m not on Twitter so hadn’t noticed, but… Good.

Attempting to appease a tyrant gets you nowhere. They'll do to you whatever the fuck they were meaning to do in the first place anyway.

Them dead liberal bubbles have some serious activity. Probably all the echo chambering.

It hate how true this is but love its succinctness, @goat.navy

There’s something like this in the background of Peter Watts’ 25 year old yet fascinatingly prescient Maelstrom, where the net at large has gotten so overloaded with virulent autonomous agents that you can’t trust it anymore, and sane content lives on a series of loosely connected splinternets.

I barely have time to read Wired for the kind of stuff I used to go for it now, but I think I'll keep the subscription going as long as they keep showing up for the moment.

@kagi.com Feature request: an intermediate setting for how long to save threads between "24 hours" and "Forever". A week will do. Often I may want to review a thread I created a couple of days ago, which I knew I wasn't going to want to keep around forever so I didn't star, and it's gone already.

Investigation by IStories shows #Telegram uses a single, FSB linked company as infrastructure provider globally. Telegram's MTProto protocol requires a *cleartext* identifier to be prepended to all client-server messages. Combined, these two choices by Telegram make it into a #surveillance tool.

Every other company in the planet announces a token accumulation treasury strategy, and their marketcap goes to an absurd multiple of their holdings. Ethereum is the bottom panel of of Sunny Street's "Know the Work Rules" comic, but for crypto treasuries.

We were eyeing AI bots with suspicion a few calls ago, but crypto’s next big risk is over-leveraged accumulators - and we expect they will end up blowing up on TradFi. Things are going to get real tangled, and real weird. Full discussion here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KB_J...

You can tell this is not HackerNews because of the self-awareness.
