I’ve finally managed to swap out my nose ring and I have a tiny tan line where the ring was. who knew that was even possible!

farage is a threat to abortion rights and all (with the 5 reform MPs) but idk the call seems to be coming from inside the house if you’re also aligning yourself with terfy MPs to push forward rubbish amendments

if anyone is surprised by Stock’s latest brand of nonsense - and RTing Cates!- you’ve really not been paying attention. This is also what happens when you treat abortion like a single issue struggle. ½

kathleen stock has long been a forced birther propagandist labour enabled these far right grifters. they used trans ppl to insert themselves in to our commentariat ppl didn't know who stock was before her transphobia. now she's a 'feminist' columnist @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social enabled stock

in a recent dissertation meeting (via Teams) with my student, i allowed them to use the live transcribe function to aid notetaking. i looked at it to create notes for our required "documentation" - the "AI" censors the word abortion!

(There’s a divide & conquer joke in here somewhere…)

I’ve been quite vocal about how I don’t think abortion should be tied to a police & sentencing bill AT ALL. But, if you wondered why our imaginations of abortion liberation remain to limited & tied to the law: šŸ‘‡šŸ¾šŸ‘‡šŸ¾šŸ‘‡šŸ¾

i promise we'll be back... soon.

Wow, this is the condom I wrote up in a blog post a few years ago having come across mention in sale catalogue a former colleague had passed on to me. Glad to see it has found a home where it can be appreciated and viewed by the public. lesleyahall.blogspot.com/2022/07/coll...

media/other scholars who work with newspaper articles & podcasts etc- how do you find your data (eg, is it keyword searches in each newspaper? Specific databases?) & how do you store/categorise it? #AcademicSky 1/2

"We were trying to find her to get her to a hospital" claims Texas cop who used a nationwide license plate database to track down a person who had allegedly self-managed an abortion. I don't even know where to start

Enough of this racist fiction. Enough. Not a single non-white person in England is in a job in the NHS *because* they are non-white. Not a single one. And as for the idea that England's criminal justice system goes easy on non-white people because they are non-white. Well. Just think about that.

Left-wing cancel culture does not exist, exhibit A

but the amendments attempting an abortion decriminalisation workaround are tied to the police & sentencing bill- which risks increasing police power & reducing accountability. ads are blocked on account of serious allegations against the police. I’m sure ā€œdecrimā€ via carceral logics will work great

people really need to read more abortion/reproduction focused fiction so they have more references than ā€˜it’s like something out of handmaid’s tale’. forced sterilisation, testing on peoples’ bodies, pronatalism, anti-abortion… don’t need ā€˜dystopian’ fiction when it’s all reality!

The then-lead of Met's child abuse investigations team says they don't have much experience in investigating abortion (as 'child death'...?), well, now there's detailed NPCC practice advice around abortion in child death investigations: library.college.police.uk/docs/NPCC/Pr...

Midwives in the cases showing up rather less well than late Victorian doctors who resisted police and magistrates pressuring them to badger women dying from illegal abortion to grass up backstreet abortionists. (And getting legal opinions to back them up.)

www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... Why request a review of CPS’ initial decision not to prosecute, in 2023, nearly 3 years after? While the recording suggest they had questions about the arrest, didn’t think it was in Ms Packer’s best interests, & weren’t convinced of criminalising abortions 1/3

yes, I’m bereft. I watched Nadal play for ~23 years. I’m not sure I know what it means to love tennis without him 😭

this is about reproductive injustice. these are the (possibly unintended) consequences of reproductive governance www.newyorker.com/news/america...

In my Critical Bioethics class, we also look at the similarly heartbreaking/horrifying case of Marlise MuƱoz from 2014 in Texas. Apart from everything else, her pregnancy superseded her advance directives which is why Marlise was on life support www.theguardian.com/world/2014/j...

I remain sceptical of abortion decrim through carceral frameworks that expand police powers, particularly when we see increasing police guidance (governance!) on abortion. I don’t see how we achieve reproductive freedom by tying ourselves to these logics. These, to me, aren’t wise compromises.

the guidance also proves what @luberropizzarossa.bsky.social & I have argued: that telemedicine reified medicine & law’s exceptionalising of abortion, extending its reach into the home rather than (as hoped) liberating it from these institutions. doi.org/10.1016/j.ws...

as people worry about such attacks on reproduction, let’s not avoid the fact that Gaza’s main fertility clinic was also ā€˜intentionally attacked and destroyed’ by Israel: www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/3/... let’s not be selective about where reproductive violence is recognised & mourned.

the guidance is worrying but also deeply strange- the offences cited don’t fully map onto the impetus for investigations into ā€˜child death’, the assumed suspicion around obstetric emergencies like ā€˜unattended stillbirth’, & explicit instructions to search for mife & miso.

Looking forward to listening to a fantastic panel on reprojustice organised by @heinivaisanen.bsky.social & CĆ©line Miani @ined-english.bsky.social! I’ll also say some stuff (hopefully not gibberish)- come hang out in Paris or online šŸ‘‡šŸ¾šŸ‘‡šŸ¾šŸ‘‡šŸ¾

I look forward to our event on Reproductive Justice (5 June, 2pm, Paris) with an amazing line of speakers: @zakiyaluna.bsky.social, @maudannebracke.bsky.social, @rishie.bsky.social and Laura Mamo. You can join in person (in Paris) or online, details below šŸ‘‡ Followed by a free film screening!

embarrassing for the so-called 'labour' party, not just drawing from but moving beyond the reform/tory playbook. way to throw us all under the bus.

Just out! Our peer-reviewed critique of the Cass Review has been published by BMC Medical Research Methodology. Please read and share. We show that the Cass Review is fatally flawed and should not be the basis for policy or practice in transgender healthcare. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

THREAD: India-Pakistan misinformation - Day 5 While videos confirm Pakistan's Nur Khan air base in Rawalpindi was attacked tonight, this video, shared by Jackson Hinkle, is old. Filmed in December 2023, it shows a fire caused by tankers colliding near the Nur Khan air base.

The vindictiveness of this investigation & trial lays bare the cruelty of medicine and law. The harm here was to Ms Packer & her friends+family, & the state the cruel, violent perpetrator; all in a bid to control abortion & abortion seekers.

it’s my favourite time of tennis season & this piece is a perfect reminder of sport & its place in our lives

as if the torture Kashmiri people endured wasn't enough, this bloodlust that every other endian cheered on will only ensure that they'll have to suffer through potentially another lockdown and communications blackout for no good reason
