The SPLC's chief communications officer, Julian Teixeira, shares his experience joining 50 delegates from the U.S. and Germany for a joint project titled “Building a Critical Memory: Transitioning From Denial to Collective Responsibility in Germany and the United States.” https://bit.ly/3FXw1a7

Scenes from #NoKingsDay in San Francisco on Saturday: Thousands marched from Dolores Park to Civic Center.

I would like the major news outlets to imagine that this is Sen. Cornyn or Sen. Cotton and headline accordingly.

I will be damned if I allow a bunch of Confederate-waving January 6th apologists give the American people a lecture on flag waving. There is ZERO reason to enter an argument about patriotism with people who still worship traitors to America 150+ years later. They. Are. Breaking. The. Law.

JUST IN ICE agents arrested at least 2 people outside a San Francisco courthouse on Tuesday morning. Video shows protesters surrounding an ICE mini-van with a man inside, banging on the van & opening its doors, trying to prevent the arrest. Protests are growing outside court.

The anti-Tesla movement is one of the most successful cases of social coordination in American history. In the span of six months the Tesla brand has been made radioactive. This isn’t a subjective view. You can see it in the data.

my column/essay this week is on the administration's war on the future, what that means, and the obligation anti-trump americans have to articulate a robust vision of an egalitarian future in response. read/share/etc. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/21/o...

BREAKING: The Supreme Court ruled courts must assess the full context of a police encounter when determining what constitutes excessive force — not just the moments right before the lethal force. Over 1,300 people were killed by police last year. This ruling will help hold the police accountable.

A group of Quakers are marching more than 300 miles from New York City to Washington, D.C., to demonstrate against the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigrants.

"Alleging Illegal Dismantling of National Endowment for the Humanities." Very important action here.

While it is understandable to focus attention on Trump’s attacks on democracy and the rule of law, we must not lose sight of the fact that it is the Republican Congress enabling his authoritarianism. Ignoring their complicity in Trump’s actions is a mistake—both legally and strategically.

We told the truth about who he is. It has nothing to do with any other Italian or person of Italian descent. He was a mass-murderer, thief, enslaver, torturer, and incompetent governor who was despised by his own men & fellow officers and died penniless after being imprisoned.

Let’s be clear. Trump's arrest of Judge Dugan in Milwaukee has nothing to do with immigration. This latest attack is about one thing: unchecked power. It is time for my colleagues in the Republican Party to stand up to his growing authoritarianism.

Whew! Hakeem had time today, and you should read what he had to say. This piece is excellent!

The Trump Administration is desperate to have this case dismissed www.everylibrary.org/trump_imls_e... via @everylibrary.bsky.social

This professor studies dictatorships. He helped convince Harvard to stand up to Trump

"Nations reel and stagger on their way; they make hideous mistakes; they commit frightful wrongs; they do great and beautiful things. And shall we not best guide humanity by telling the truth about all this, so far as the truth is ascertainable?" W. E. B. Du Bois, "The Propaganda of History" 🗃️

What are American students learning about our nation’s history? Claims about K–12 US history curriculum often circulate without a firm grounding in the evidence, but the AHA’s American Lesson Plan report offers research-based analysis. 🗃️

If your response to yesterday’s millions of people marching is that they were all paid operatives…you’re desperate, deluded, and scared. And lying.

Millions of people took to the streets yesterday to send a message to the world that we do not consent to the destruction of our government and our economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies. Even during these dark days, remember that you are not alone. Solidarity.

Correct.

1. Stop assuming people announce all their activism on social media. 2. Stop demanding people announce all their activism on social media. 3. Stop deriding people for not announcing all their activism on social media. 4. Dunking on people on social media isn't activism and isn't praxis.

Worth 3 minutes if you can spare it, if for no other reason it contains my new favorite descriptor of the ideological bent of this administration and its adherents: “miserable, backwards swamp logic of white supremacy.” open.substack.com/pub/thebulwa...

Peace is more than just no war. It means justice, strong laws, and fair leadership. In a world of fast tech changes, conflicts, and rising inequality — human rights are our guide. ⚖️🧭🌍 #HumanRights #Justice #Peace

The AHA has released a statement condemning "the dismantling of federal departments and agencies through the indiscriminate termination of federal employees and elimination of programs, including historical offices.” 🗃️

One theory I have for this is that the system was designed with the understand that for politicians the ultimate field of ambition was political power. But today, for politicians, the field of ambition is no longer political power, its influence (media) and money. So they compete there instead.

At some point the press needs to stop adopting right-wing framing that this is a "DEI purge" and call it what it is — white supremacist violence against our collective past. www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/...

Hey Democratic Party, You ain’t raising money until you start raising hell. Sincerely, A Huge Portion of Your Supporters

The AHA and the OAH have released a joint statement condemning recent efforts to censor historical content on federal government websites, at many public museums, and across a wide swath of government resources that include essential data. 🗃️

We join with @historians.org, @oah.org & others to denounce US goverment's efforts to censor historical content in public resources. These mandates are deeply antithetical to our community's work of stewarding & preserving the integrity of the scholarly record. Read more: https://bit.ly/4hxQHlu

HAPPENING NOW: Police arrested hundreds of protestors including Jewish elders, descendants of Holocaust survivors, and students, dragging them out of a sit-in at Trump Tower by their arms and legs. Jews say: Free Mahmoud, Free Palestine!
