I went to the Tate Modern yesterday. In the Rothko room with all the Serious Art Connoisseurs there was a ~5 year old kid who walked up to each painting, pointed at it and shouted 'RECTANGLE' at each one in turn, then left the room.

Oh nooooooo!!!! Oh, this breaks my heart. Iceman, Batman, Jim Morrison… We have lost an icon.

what booker is doing right now is an example of what i mean when i say things like “we need more ambition right now.” there is room in american politics right now for people with ambition to take big stands and reap the rewards. he’s doing it!

France’s institutions defended its democracy, upholding the law. South Korea’s institutions defended its democracy, upholding the law. Brazil’s institutions defended its democracy, upholding the law. Only America’s decided a criminal must be allowed to break its laws and destroy its democracy.

Marine Le Pen, the leader of the far-right in France, was barred from running for public office for 5 years today as punishment in an embezzlement / fake jobs case. Le Pen has been a clear frontrunner to make runoff in the 2027 presidential race (for the 3rd time), but this would prevent that:

Dear American citizens, whatever you wish more German citizens would have done in 1933, do that now.

My Kingdom and more for anyone to realize that awarding yourself a government contract is not a conflict of interest. It's corruption. When the bank teller takes the money out of the cash drawer and puts it in his pocket that's not a conflict of interest either.

Carry yourself with the confidence of a mediocre white man in government who doesn’t really care who’s in his bomb Yemen group chat

Hey, an occasional reminder: Should you be fighting fascism here in the US? Yes, you should! Are you the one who decides how best you can do that? Yes, you are! Should the people who decide that you're not doing it right (i.e., the way they want you to) fuck off into the sun? Yes, they should!

Pretty certain that every one of us who has ever been involved in the law profession, however brief, is walking around today thinking "HolyShitHolyShitHolyShitHolyShit!!!!!!!!!!"

You’re stronger than you think 🐇💗

French scientist denied US entry after officers find phone messages criticizing Trump

Among the material devastation to everyday people, Senate Dems have now blown a hole in their ability to work with the House. We had an agreed upon plan, House took immense risk, then Senate turned around midway and destroyed it w/ a fear-based, inexplicable abdication. They own what happens next.

UPDATE: We did a "meet the candidates" Zoom call last night and it went well! The Paris chapter of Democrats Abroad France has some good folks. I should know the results of the election by the end of the month.

SpaceX should be fined $100 billion every time one of their rockets explode and falls in the territory of a foreign country, to be held in escrow for lawsuits from foreign governments who sue for environmental cleanup. This isn't China. We should have better engineering.

For years, when I asked my fellow white Americans why the US has the largest carceral apparatus in the world by a wide margin, with 4% of the world's population and 22 percent of the world's prisoners, with mass incarceration mostly impacting communities of color,

With his permission, I'm sharing Dean Treanor's response to Ed Martin's letter:

Primary all these people. Not fit for purpose. Enablers of fascism.

you’re fired. wait you’re rehired. email us a list of things you’ve done today wait forget it you’re fired again. come back your job was important. you’re fired. or hired. come in to the office. wait the office has no computers go home. we are the department of government efficiency.

Mockler: If you had to say one thing to Elon Musk and his DOGE cabal, what would it be? Warren: I would say follow the law and get the hell out of our agencies. Get the hell out of our government. Nobody elected you.

Ha! The internet remembers everything. 🤣🤣

Extraordinary comment from Tory MP Graham Stuart: “We have to consider the possibility that President Trump is a Russian asset. If so, Trump's acquisition is the crowning achievement of Putin's FSB career.” (Narrator: It’s extraordinary because our own gd government didn’t say it first.)

Seems like a pretty important detail

To go along with our piece today, we published an extensive list of folks associated with DOGE. It builds off and adds to the strong work that Wired, WaPo, ProPublica and other pubs have been doing. The public has a right to know who is dismantling the government. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

WOW. After yesterday’s Oval Office ambush of President Zelensky, Haltbakk Bunkers, one of Norway’s leading marine fuel providers, announced that it will no longer refuel U.S. Navy vessels, urging other European firms to follow suit. The United States is weaker and more isolated than ever.

Today, in a meeting at the White House, the only person actually defending American interests was Zelenskyy. Let that sink in.

CALL TO ACTION: Call your representatives at (202) 224-3121 and ask what criteria they plan to use when “vetting” their constituents.

Lots of "Very Serious People" don't want to admit what is plain and obvious and in front of our eyes and explains so much: Donald Trump and Elon Musk are two of the most ignorant and uninformed people to ever be allowed near public office anywhere in the western world. It's obvious to all of us.

💥 BREAKING: At Apple's 2025 annual meeting of shareholders today, proposal entitled “Request to Cease DEI Efforts" is rejected by shareholders. Right-wing nonprofit National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR) proposal was also rejected by Costco shareholders 98-2 percent.

This is why we need unions.

Brave to @jeffstein.bsky.social, WaPo's chief economics correspondent, for not wasting any time in stating what must be stated. Hopefully the first of many.

I'm watching the press conference between President Macron and trump, and the President of France speaks and understands TWO languages way better than trump does, struggling with just English. It's such a colossal embarrassment having trump representing the U.S.
