As @whitfdh.bsky.social mentioned on my earlier post, Pygmy-owls have false eyes on the back of their heads, called ocelli. Many songbirds will "mob" or attack owls from behind, because, well, they don't want to be eaten. It's thought that these false eyes keep birds from attacking. #birds #owls
