Her name is Rosie: "A lot of vendors are undocumented and can't be here today. So those of us who can, we gotta show up"

the decision to "be safe" is no longer yours to make. the state has decided to make us unsafe. but you can make informed choices, take calculated risks, and you can decide to be powerful.

Update from the Madleen Freedom Flotilla

wow holy shit Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

"You can protest, but you can't be effective about it."

got a beautiful Los Angeles update from one of my group chats

On his first day in office, Donald Trump pardoned 169 people who were convicted of assaulting police officers on January 6.

In the last 20 or so minutes I’ve seen LAPD officers shove women to the ground without provocation, rip a sign out of a man’s hand and then swing a baton into his leg and raise a less-lethal launcher to aim directly at a protester (which I’m 99% is a major policy violation.)

The weird, often whitewashed way the civil rights movement is taught (or not taught) seemed to convince a lot of people that nonviolence was met with nonviolence, instead of you know, dogs, hoses, beatings, death, etc

I’m going to be building a thread of protest footage and content I can find as the afternoon and evening unfold from LA

I know trump’s crack-addicted son isn’t bright but does he realize in this context the rooftop Koreans would be the ones shooting ICE and the police?

LAPD retreated. Federal police took their place. People are sitting peacefully.

Things are escalating fast on the freeway in Los Angeles. Tear gas canisters are being kicked back and forth

How many of these pictures of armed oppression of US citizens happened under a democratic president?

This strikes me as odd because for my entire adult life the protests I've seen framed as "riots" and "disorder" have been peaceful protests in the process of attempting to either defend themselves against or flee from violence initiated by the state

If LAPD is telling you they don't want to take part in your fuckup you have fucked up in ways that defy human comprehension

I know that many don't want to hear this but we've been moving towards this current state of affairs over the past 65 years. And it's really been a bipartisan project. The expansion of the carceral state is the fuel for fascism. Folks have been trying to make this case for a long time.

The California legislature and city & county governments should file injunctions and draft emergency legislation prohibiting the quartering of now-federalized troops on private property including hotels under the Third Amendment. Make the Guard bivouac on the ground on federal property.

Republicans are coming for your children.

“Construction workers, who were building a student housing complex that overlooks Florida State University on the corner of Gaines and Mosley streets, stood in a line for hours waiting to verify their documentation or be hauled away.” www.tallahassee.com/story/news/l...

Sick of people being forced to act like being against pride is a rational and reasonable position to hold. "I'm sorry you feel that way" "oh well its only for a month" No, fuck you bitch stop being weird. Being against pride makes you weird. You should feel bad. Loser.

Practically speaking, 2,000 National Guard in an area the size of Greater Los Angeles can't do very much without local agency help. They can lock down a couple neighborhoods. They can stay put and protect some federal facilities. They can't enforce a curfew on 18 million people across 4000 sq miles

We hear about how pro-immigrant side is extreme. There is literally nothing more extreme than this statement. Being willing to sacrifice the country’s foundations for an evil goal

The Trump administration has begun by attacking immigrants because they believe them to be the most vulnerable target. But whatever they can do to immigrants today they will do to the rest of us tomorrow. Our future is at stake in this fight. We cannot stand aside. crimethinc.com/LosAngelesJu...

All of these violent, lawless ICE officers terrorizing communities and hiding their faces weren't just hired this year. It's why dismantling ICE as an agency was so important and remains so. These people are unfit to be public servants if they hate the public.

the white house thinks brute force is, no pun intended, a trump card. they don’t anticipate pushback and they don’t know how to handle it with anything other than escalation. the issue is that each escalation is itself a gamble. if protesters refuse to back down, you’ve lost face. (1/?)

I don't care if these monstrous ICE raids are a "federal operation". This is authoritarian violence, plain and simple. Just because Stephen Miller has kidnapping quotas for brown people he doesn't want to see on the street doesn't mean we have to think it's okay.

This country wasn’t just entirely built by immigrants, it still only runs because of immigrants

Only support for those rioting against ICE today

all cops are scum, including the ones related to you.

This is the only meme you need.

the consistent fatal flaw of all hero shooters is that none of them are team fortress 2, with the sole exception of team fortress 2, which instead suffers from being team fortress 2

Trump finally chiming it. Sounds like he's issuing an ultimatum to Gavin and Bass to either send in the Guard and LAPD or he'll federalize the Guard and send them in himself. We are rapidly approaching a crisis point.

Acting Director of ICE Tom Homan is threatening to call out the National Guard to Los Angeles — which he lacks the authority to do — for a couple of relatively small protests. I don't find this threat credible at all.

Pretty clearly setting the stage to use the Insurrection Act to crack down on domestic protests within the US.

And folks, don't hesitate to really rub it in. Be insufferable. Let everybody know you goddamn told them so. They deserve it.

No cops at Pride includes the cop in your head who tells you to police other queer people. Learn the difference between being uncomfortable and being harmed. Deal with your discomfort on your own time. Pride is for the community, not just you.

"Learn the difference between being uncomfortable and being harmed" is a good lesson for many contexts

As this deteriorates further, the question is going to be if National Guard troops are going to fire on civilians and on other members of law-enforcement or National Guard that they are not a part of in the cities they are invading. If they are well we have a solid answer and it’s war.
