“researchers found that the sounds of bees, which are efficient snapdragon pollinators, led the snapdragons to increase their sugar and nectar volume, and even alter their gene expression that governs sugar transport and nectar production.” Neat work via @asa-news.bsky.social conf last month!

Dear Zoologists (in Germany)! Before leaving for your extended public holiday weekend... Consider registering for the #DZG2025 to secure the Early Bird fee. Early bird registration is ending soon.

🚨 Cool new project alert 🚨 WE- you, me, everyone- need to work together to get important science messages out to people. 4 artists & 3 scientists collab'd on these posters. We hope YOU will put them out in your community. Each poster comes w/info about each topic. Get 'em Squidfacts.bigcartel.com

Our latest paper on the jump kinematics and choreography in the Oz Splendid Peacock spider. We filmed & analysed locomotory jumps in male & female spiders. The males are incredibly light - measuring just 2mg - and oh they can jump! Videos in the thread. Open Access - read here: tinyurl.com/4bnpz9tz

WATCH AND CIRCULATE: Macklemore’s a real one for this video doing what the Democrats and their surrogates refuse to do youtu.be/sn9EKC9nqU4?...

🚨It’s official!🚨 Spiders incoming! As of March, my @dfg.de Emmy Noether Group will start at the University of Bonn @unibonn.bsky.social !Extremely excited to build a new lab, meet new people and immerse ourselves fully into more spider research. Ready to discover more of their sleepy secrets 🙃 🤗🕷️💤🌏

What a great opportunity to combine science and photography! Glad for this award with @augustpaula.bsky.social and thanks to @icouzin.bsky.social Luke Costello,Tristan Walter at @mpi-animalbehav.bsky.social and @unikonstanz.bsky.social Thanks @rsocpublishing.bsky.social for the great initiative!

Sorry, another Snowcap. This one is sleepy on this Friday evening. At @tapirvalley.bsky.social #birds #hummingbirds #costarica

Excited to join the community! Will be seeking out old and new connections in neuroethology, insect, pollinator, vision, behaviour, anatomy, science, education, and many other spaces on this platform 🤓😀

Why do insects fly around artificial lights? They don't actually want to fly towards them, they just can't really get away from them. Insects naturally tilt their dorsum towards a light source, and as a result end up flying around it in circles, trapped. 🧪 🦋 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Do dreams serve a biological function? If so, why do we forget most of them? Here we propose a solution for this apparent paradox: authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S...

Some of what I do as an entomology curator is Chrysis management.

The animal behavior channel "Mit Wissen" has a new episode out. Cini Gall takes you on the trail of the grey teal, a nomad that can navigate thousands of kilometers across Australia to greener pastures. As was once said by a great Australian scientist "Why is it so?" youtu.be/YsUELS7ofCg?...

An excellent read on hibernation from Vlad Vyazovskiy, and thoughts provoking as per usual! aeon.co/essays/how-a...

If you don’t feel stupid doing science, you’re not trying hard enough.

Jürgen is all of us entomologists 😂 still love this moment! #gbbo

I was rereading Tinbergen's "On aims and methods of Ethology" this morning and was awakened by this: "It seems to me that...we...will always need naturalists and observers as well as experimenters; we must...not discourage the [person] with a gift for observation." I have the gift for observation.

Guess I’m just gonna leave this video here as my intro tweet :) 🕷️💤 In my group, we study spider sleep! :) m.youtube.com/watch?v=BTcc...

Post a picture you took (no description) to bring some zen to the timeline

I made a starter pack for animal behaviour researchers / ethologists! please share and feel free to self-nominate or suggest others to be added as this is very much still a work in progress and not an exhaustive list 🌍🧪😊 #SciSky #BioSky #AnimalBehaviour #AnimalBehavior #Ethology go.bsky.app/Tr8VZpV
