Very cool, and also very safe, that everyone people trying to live their lives now have to account for the possibility of these absolute dorks doing Sicario Fantasy Camp maneuvers at random.

Zohran Mamdani having billionaires throwing everything they can at him reminds me of this.

I wish people would stop describing things that are indisputably provable as a matter of fact as "controversial." People not liking a fact doesn't mean the fact is controversial. Reality is not malleable around our beliefs and it shouldn't be. We need to stop acting like it is.

A new theoretical framework proposes that time has three dimensions and serves as the fundamental fabric of reality, with space emerging as a secondary effect. This approach aims to unify quantum mechanics and gravity. doi.org/g9qzz7

When you’re totally into free speech and open ended curiosity no matter where it leads.

“How many bodies did you guys grab today?” an ICE agent asked another after arresting a *US citizen* for filming them in action. “Oh, we grabbed 31,“ the other replied. “That was a good day today.” Then they, I shit you not, *high-fived.* www.latimes.com/california/s...

I was consulted, a while ago, on whether a clock that counted down the estimated carbon budget for 1.5°C would be a good idea. I asked them what they planned to do when it went past zero? I did not get an answer, and they didn’t ask me anything again. 🤷

Spotted in Burbank: a citizen driving behind an unmarked ICE SUV on speakerphone shouting "LA MIGRA!". Just following them wherever they turned. Hero shit.

🇫🇷 VIDEO: France reintroduces captive-bred bearded vultures into the wild In the rugged peaks of eastern France's Vercors mountains, captive-bred bearded vultures are being released into the wild as part of a major biodiversity restoration initiative

it is funny how many people affiliated with the secret police have had to say "stop making fun of the secret police, the guy in the tac vest that covers him like a training bra is a hero, he tracked down and subdued two hospice orderlies using only the W-2 forms they file annually"

Huge implications from this: Microsoft cut off the email of the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, because of his work on Israel www.nytimes.com/2025/06/20/t...

I previously wrote an explainer about why if you just compare infections (or another outcome) directly to control measures – like Macedo and Lee did – rather than thinking about transmission, you'll generally get totally wrong conclusion about effectiveness: kucharski.substack.com/p/how-contag...

We really need some laws to make sure that if you’re wearing glasses that record video everyone knows it. Legally mandate that if you’re wearing smart glasses you also have to wear a cap with a propeller on it

for a long time looking at zuck was like looking at an alien in a human suit, and now looking at him looks like an alien in a human suit trying to be cool which is orders of magnitude worse

I still think 48-hour detentions without a hearing are too long. Americans are far too comfortable letting other people be detained without a legally sufficient reason.

What about the facism?

UPDATE: The judge orders Mahmoud Khalil's release by 6:30pm CT subject to these conditions: 1) he surrenders his passport(s) and govt issues a copy of it + his green card 2) his travel is restricted to NY, MI, NJ, LA, and DC 3) he attends all court hearings 4) he provides current address to DHS

The growing politicization of vaccines isn't going to serve the United States well, six former #ACIP chairs warn in an opinion piece in @statnews.com. The result will be more illness and deaths from preventable diseases & an erosion of #pandemic preparedness. www.statnews.com/2025/06/20/a...

honestly this was very predictable if you could a) accurately recall the political consequences of the 2020 protests and b) take public opinion as it actually existed in 2025. impossible difficulty for a non-trivial portion of the professional political commentary class

A growing body of evidence suggests that #cannabis use may be linked to significant health harms, including cardiovascular disease. In @cnn.com, Lynn Silver, MD, MPH, Director of PHI’s @getitrightonmj.bsky.social, discusses the need for screening & education on the harms: amp.cnn.com/cnn/2025/06/...

This is the real reason they're masked and don't provide ID. It's not to prevent blowback. They don't care about blowback. They went to proud boys rallies and "mass deportation now" rallies without masks. It's that they're contracting out this work to people with no legal authority to make arrests.

The BBC has confirmed it won’t air its documentary on Gaza’s medics. I know some of the journalists involved and they’re absolutely excellent. This statement is mealy-mouthed; you can’t “both sides” the facts on the ground of a genocide, and there’s a clear public interest in documenting those facts

Absolutely psychotic framing by the NYT: Basic recognition of trans rights is not "aggressive"! www.nytimes.com/2025/06/19/m...

You are literally repeating a false claim about USAID funding that comes from Republican supporters of Donald Trump and Elon Musk. It is surreal and shameful to see people who claim to be leftists unthinkingly parroting Republican lies about American aid. www.politifact.com/factchecks/2...

The death toll this past #flu season took on kids continues to climb. In its latest flu update, #CDC reports on another 4 deaths, bringing the total to date to 250 — an extraordinary number. 89% of the kids for whom vaccination status was known weren't fully vaccinated. www.cdc.gov/fluview/surv...

New piece on why it’s unhelpful to characterise COVID debate as ‘lockdowns are bad’ vs ‘lockdowns are good’ when it was really about people who claimed that COVID was 100x less fatal than it was + optimal to have a massive epidemic immediately before vaccine… vs those who sense checked these claims.

Okay, we did a deep dive. Important Context and the Center for Media and Democracy have everything you need to know about what’s happening with the CDC’s critical vaccine panel that Robert Kennedy Jr. is reshaping. www.importantcontext.news/p/kennedy-st...

Alterations in the gut microbiome are linked to persistent symptoms in ME/CFS and long COVID, highlighting microbial therapies as a promising approach for symptom management and improved quality of life. doi.org/g9qw6t

Faine has been right about this over the last several weeks and “should we have USAID*?” really reveals a fundamental demarcation of who is serious and has earned trust to be listened to on policy on any issue. *the correct and unambiguous answer is: yes

just saw someone posting (elsewhere on the internet) about how he was using ChatGPT to manage his diabetes because his doctor wasn’t responsive, and it wasn’t working very well, and aaaaah AAHHHHHHH AAAAHHHHHHHHHHH

The people praised by the authors of In COVIDs Wake are responsible for these headlines today. This is an excellent podcast looking back. But the forces these guys legitimized and elevated are just getting started. Macedo and Lee praise the people responsible for this👇

Jay, please stop gaslighting early career researchers.

ICE lured the spouse of an active duty Army solider out of her workplace near Houston by lying and saying her car had been damaged, then snatched her up and detained her for three months before deporting her to Honduras without her husband and young child thewarhorse.org/military-fam...

Fun fact, it was never lowered to blue or green. This ran from 2002-2011 and would get covered by the news

If a colleague had the reliability rate of an LLM, they would be fired. If ordinary* software did, it would be uninstalled. LLMs require the chat format, because chat makes us party to the conversation. We insert the meaning ourselves - and hold it to a different standard. It's the mirror effect.

So that DHS can hide the crimes they are committing

Breaking News: A federal appeals court let President Trump keep using the National Guard to respond to immigration protests in Los Angeles, rejecting a lower court’s ruling.

Andry José Hernández Romero, I remember you, even if I do not know how to articulate my horror, rage, & sorrow at your treatment by my government. No one has heard from you in 97 days. As vigil, I’m posting a photo (or video) of you every day until you are returned from El Salvador.

I did my own research ahead of next week's ACIP meeting rasmussenretorts.substack.com/p/meet-the-a...

Not only reckless and dangerous, but telling — ICE as an org is relentlessly seeking to exploit local license plate trackers to locate and target immigrant drivers, yet here we have what is reported to be an federal agent very concerned with being tracked themselves.
