Feels so rare to see the right thing being done by MPs, thank goodness and about time!

'Rembrandt: Masterpieces in Black and White' opens today at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. The first exhibition of this scale I've worked on, and we pulled it off in a very short time. All credit to techs, conservators, marketing, painters etc!

We've been overwhelmed with bookings for this session - fantastic to see so many people taking this seriously! Bookings on hold for now but we're looking at future dates for a repeat - watch this space and sign up for our newsletter for info!

Want to find out about Trauma Informed Practice in #Museums #Archives and #Libraries? Join GLAMcares for an online session with experienced practitioner Louise Thompson from Mindful Museums Thurs 20th March, 10am-1pm, just £12. Book at docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

Today in 'my son knows me so well / I may be a bit odd', my son made me my own taxidermy, something I know is peculiar but I've always wanted. I will be making it a hat.

Hugely proud to have played a small role in Birmingham Museums' Citizens' Jury, the first in a UK museum context. Genuinely working with a representative group of people to come together to think about our future. It's been emotional and challenging, loved it! youtu.be/j7SdV6_V39U?...

Just - belatedly - deleted my Twitter account. I've barely used it in ages, and it's the right thing, but it's where masses of people wrote amazing things about my Dad when he died, so it feels like a loss And yet, it's also just words on a screen and I should pull myself together, right?

A fantastic 38 people joined our online session today, exploring case studies and scenarios for fostering a Culture of Care in your #museum, #library or #archives work. More sessions, and a conference to come this year!

Don't forget to join @glamcares.bsky.social and (apparently!) 47 other people who've signed up to think about building care into #museum #library and #archive work! Sign up free below, for Monday's online session

The joys of illustrated manuscripts

This is the first exhibition on this scale I've worked on. We've a fantastic freelance curator leading on it but I'm permanently terrified I'll be found out as an idiot. Still could happen but today we agreed paint colours so maybe it'll actually work! www.birminghammuseums.org.uk/exhibitions/...

I think there should be a module on Museum Studies courses on heritage layering. Four layers plus scarf and gloves today.

The lesser-spotted empty inbox. Logically I know it's just because I've made a good To Do list but it's the adult equivalent of a sticker on a star chart!

Back to work in a #museum or #library today and need some January positivity and care? Book for the next FREE @glamcares.bsky.social online session for a quick hit of case studies!

Reading a draft of my oldest's dissertation (not on history or museums), and my work here is done ❤️

Have you heard about GLAMCares? We're a care and support network for people who work with communities in #Galleries, #Libraries, #Museums and #Heritage. We run training and events, online and in-person. See what we've done so far at glamcaresnetwork.wordpress.com and sign up for our newsletter!

Have you heard of GLAMCares, a support network for those working in museums, libraries and archives? If you haven't, please do sign up for our newsletter, and why not send us a conference proposal or join us in Jan for a free online event too...

@lukaslarge.bsky.social I can't see posts like this without (happily!) thinking of you!

Our last Citizens' Jury session for Birmingham Museums today. Hearing the recommendations, but also the impact on jurors, made me cry. I'm absolutely knackered but a bit overwhelmed too. I've not done #Museum30 but this is definitely my #WhyMuseums! (Deleted the prev post as I forgot alt-text)

Post a movie gif from the year you were born. (Oh dear!)

Show me your pet and what they were named after.

Been thinking a lot about the privilege of being able to volunteer in museums when I was younger,(the 90s!), that not everyone has. Four places that gave me great memories/experience, I'm hugely grateful for. I now oversee our volunteer offer, how to offer this to more people.

Introduce yourself with jobs you've done apart from what you do now. 1. Paper round... 2. Pet shop assistant 3. Nanny 4. Assistant Curator 5. Curator 6. Community Engagement Officer 7. 8 job roles all variations on a theme! Institutionalised. Don't understand the world outside museums any more!
