Really dig Yuko Gunji, a kintsugi artist in NYC. Kintsugi is the Japanese method of repairing broken ceramics with lacquer and gold. Instead of trying to make things look new again, it highlights the faults, showing how something can be beautiful even after it was broken. IG gunjiyuko.kintsugi

When warnings of Insectageddon were issued a few years ago, there was widespread denial. Less so now. It's devastating. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Sea monkeys! If only I'd had a microscope back when my sister and I had a tank of these guys. #InsertAnInvert2024 in 2025

the dumbest part of this all is rahaeli keeps linking people to stories about the scam networks that operate out of south east asia that are extremely real but if you've read anything about them you would know they don't deal in USD over gofundme. they ask you to buy stablecoins.

I have gotten *so bad* at reading. I like doing it, but the distraction machine in my pocket has this pull on my brain where even when I’m not looking at it, my brain’s like “I bet there’s something to look at, you should check.” Then once I do, boom, fifteen minutes gone.

I am, once again, asking you to share this call for stories widely: The Apocryphal will be an anthology of Palestinian horror and dark fantasy/sci fi published by Roseway. Details below! soniasulaiman.com/the-apocryph...

One thing I've noticed is that Bluesky is a lot more rightwing/centrist when it comes to discussing Palestine. There isn't much pushback to the gross Lib spin here. Too many people who should know better are falling in line with the 'the left is antisemitic' ADL type line.

Every extra hour that ICE spends facing off with activists is an hour they can't spend kidnapping other people. Every extra minute ICE has to spend contingency planning around activists and neighbors, every extra officer ICE has to put on a kidnap squad, is a drain on their efficiency.

Following Yemen can be hard There's so much, and the international headlines don't get to half of it To rectify this, I'm announcing Nick's Yemen Roundup, an in-depth briefing on events in Yemen for everyone from novices to experts Check it out below

"from four or five years ago" so like not especially long ago

GOOD NEWS! Researchers at the University of New Mexico have developed a tau-targeting vaccine that could help PREVENT the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. In preclinical trials, the vaccine REDUCED pTau, IMPROVED memory AND motor function, and REDUCED brain atrophy with NO major side effects. 🧪🧵⬇️

This is a terrible terrible destructive decision. These sorts of long running research programmes take decades to build and their insights accumulate over decades too - the longer they run, the more valuable they become. This is knowledge vandalism. Nothing new and shiny can replace it.

For people outside the industry, it may not be common knowledge, but one of the most famous bits of technical writing of all time, was Joel Spolsky saying that you should *never* rewrite an entire code base — 25 years ago. www.joelonsoftware.com/2000/04/06/t...
