Yesterday I visited a beautiful protected area near my house: the Mont Avic Natural Park (Aosta Valley, Italy). Instituted in 1989 and expanded twice in 2003 and 2023, it now covers 7,300 ha, bordering the Gran Paradiso National Park and with an altitude range between 1000 and 3185 m asl.

We are experiencing heavy rainfall (>150 mm in 6 hours in certain localities) and severe floodings here in Northern Piedmont. Motorways and railways are closed, as well as most bridges and many local roads. Had to go out to look for a second water pump.

Spent the morning looking for fossil fruits and seeds in Pliocene sediment samples for the "Palaeontological Monitoring" class with other students. Besides fruits and seeds, we also found other things, such as fungi, insects' coprolites and biting traces. #paleobotany #ichnology
