Big Bay, big pets.

Just a reminder to Pride-celebrating folks (and everyone else) that, as you explore all aspects of your sexuality, you should only use objects with flared bases that are intended for the activity you're using them for.

Days are tough. Please enjoy Big Bay sharing his bed with Little Apollo (or, as we call him, Pretty Boy 'Pollo).

You can always tell when the Thunderbirds are in town. So much zooming! (We'll go watch them do their show tomorrow. A yearly tradition for us.)

4 new words added to the script. I want my lawyer. Every day is shut the fuck up Friday

Someone hit a squirrel in the street in front of my house. I'm watching a beautiful, industrious crow skeletonize it with really amazing efficiency. Happy lunchtime, bird!

My youngest daughter handed me "House of Leaves" to read. I have parried with @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social and The Southern Reach. I am convinced Area X beats the house on Ash Tree Lane.

And now I have to purge my library holds list, because I was winding up to read through all his stuff. Nope.

"The Raven Scholar" by Antonia Hodgson is one of the best books I've read this year. Which is impressive, because I've read some incredible books this year. It ate my head and wouldn't let up until I finished it. I'm desperate for the next one in the series.

This is the face of a dog who fled to the other side of the room to avoid grooming.

'Princess Joveta sends her grateful thanks to her friend the great Khan for his kind gift of her new pet Velociraptor, with whom she is delighted. Isambart now responds to his name, is taking well to training, and bids fair to becoming a very fine hunter.'

I'm not vegan, but I eat plant-based when I can. This looks really tasty.

I am so freaking excited for this show!

Just noticing how pretty these books look together in my Kindle library.

These are all vultures. I'm feeling less confident about the health and safety of my neighborhood.

My Val Kilmer story: My father used to do special effects as well as supplying guns for movie sets. He worked on Billy the Kid. Val Kilmer wanted to learn to shoot a gun more realistically, so he arranged for my father to take him out shooting one day. 1/

WORLD-FIRST: Ground-breaking research published today in the Ornithologist Journal has, for the first time, translated common UK bird vocalisations into equivalent phrases in the human language. The results tell us a lot! Extracts below... 🧵

Big man, little man.

You've been murdered. Whom do you want on your case?

I have read the first 3 paragraphs of "The River Has Roots" by @amalelmohtar.com 7 times now, because they're so beautiful, so magical, and I get chills every time. It's like having your imagination stroked awake by loving hands. I can't wait to read the rest of the book. Maybe just one more time...

I'm so proud of this handsome lad. His training has taken him from barking at every dog he sees to doing laps around a dog park without a peep. He did so well today that he got to meet another doggo. He's working so hard.

Dodgers vs Tigers, A Haiku We caught up! A surprise. Top of the tenth, two runs lost. But then, Mookie Betts.

Please know that you are loved devotedly and profoundly, imagine this squirrel offering you this nut as a symbol of the love that already exists for you, whether or not you're feeling it right now.

I can't fix the awful stuff happening right now, but I can, at least, provide you with a smiling dog.

It's a nice, warm day outside. We're sitting on the porch, watching the sun creep up on us, listening to the chickens and ducks and turkeys chatting in the neighbor's yard. I didn't get to do this last year. I lost most of the spring. So I'm doing it today, with my dog and my book.

My handsome lad got himself a groom. His coat is finally in shape for us to let it grow back in normally and keep him maintained between grooms. (When we rescued him, he'd required three groomer appts to get rid of the neglect mats. His coat was in rough shape. He's good now. Next, nose balm.)

One of my favorite moments is the one where my daughter and I sit at our computers, separated by 67 miles and connected by a text, updating each other on who's managed to get into the online ticket queue and where the concert seats will be. It's like a tiny military op between sleeper agents.

A tale of dinner preparation and diminutive stature.
