Joint statement from myself, King County Executive Shannon Braddock, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, Pierce County Executive Ryan Mello and Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards: We condemn President Trump’s illegal activation of California National Guard forces over the objections of California’s governor.

The entire board tasked with overseeing the State Department's Fulbright Program has resigned — claiming political interference from the Trump admin.   The Board voted "overwhelmingly" to resign "rather than endorse unprecedented actions … impermissible under the law." substack.com/home/post/p-...

Trump stood at Fort Bragg and hijacked a moment meant to honor the Army’s legacy—turning it into a spectacle for his own ego. He mocked political opponents, spread lies, and vowed to restore Confederate base names. Our Troops deserve respect. What they got was a dictator’s stunt.

The fundamental choice has not been as stark since World War II: democracy and freedom, or dictatorship and tyranny. Trump and his sycophants are siding with the latter. The rest of us must loudly, proudly, and boldly proclaim our allegiance to the former.

"What they're going to do with all this data, I don't know," said Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold, a Democrat. "But I'm sure they will use it to push their ridiculous disinformation and lies to the American public."

Voting officials say they've never seen a demand like the one the Justice Department sent to Colorado last month.

Any time press coverage slips from what happened and why, into "political strategy," and especially when it tries to show us a clever or winning strategy that may have eluded our senses... Any time that happens we are entitled to doubt it, as Greg Sargent does here. newrepublic.com/article/1966...

This unwavering commitment is a key reason the Trump administration will continue to attack workers and unions. But remember that there is courage — and hope — in solidarity.

This all comes down to policy choices. Do we want a nation with policies rooted in cruelty and punishment? Or do we want a nation with policies rooted in kindness and compassion? This is the choice before us.

The national guard’s deployment in Los Angeles sets the US on a familiar authoritarian pathway. History shows the results. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/jun/09/trump-police-state-robert-reich

Tanks in DC Troops in LA. A military parade on his birthday. Trump is done pretending. This is what authoritarianism looks like in America. My latest on why we must speak out now — before silence becomes complicity. adamkinzinger.substack.com/p/authoritar...

Donald Trump creates chaos in California so he can send in the military to deal with the chaos ... HE CREATED! Hey Donald, we see right through your totalitarian BS!

Trump threatening "heavy force" against peaceful protestors who oppose his Beijing-style military parade? Deploying the Marines & National Guard to police the American people? I made clear to Pete Hegseth and my colleagues: all of this is unconstitutional & downright un-American.

1/3 of U.S. rural hospitals are already at risk of closing. Cutting Medicaid puts these rural hospitals at an even higher risk of possible closure. www.columbiagorgenews.com/news/skyline...

RIP, Brian Wilson. youtu.be/XqLTe8h0-jo?...

Dystopian.

Double.

🚨"I’ve seen up close what happens when politicians use the military to score political points. The military loses. America loses. All of us lose." – U.S. Navy Veteran Josh Fryday Trump’s deployment isn’t about safety. It’s about chaos, distraction, and control.

“Southern California became the mythologized center of the new American dream, and Brian Wilson's music was its soundtrack.”

Beach Boys cofounder Brian Wilson has died at the age of 82. He transformed pop music into high art, and became America's answer to The Beatles' Lennon and McCartney in the process.

I feel a bit embarrassed sharing this, but I will anyway. Thank you, Greg. My approach has a name: pragmatism. (The philosophy, not the synonym for "centrist.") In pragmatism we set out to change what's gone awry. We run into problems. In treating those problems, our ideas get better, more useful.

We believe in the Constitution, Bill of Rights, separation of powers, and checks and balances. The U.S. was founded in opposition to monarchy. We fought for democracy over dictatorship. What the Trump regime is doing is the antithesis of the values this nation was founded upon.

The Trump White House is struggling to hire senior advisers for Pete Hegseth. At least three people have turned down potential roles. Top Defense Department jobs are normally considered prestigious and typically attract multiple qualified candidates.

Remember: Almost all of us are the descendants of immigrants who fled persecution, or were brought to America under duress, or sought better lives for themselves and their descendants. Politicians who stoke fear and hatred over immigration want you to forget this. Do not.

Military parades are about honoring those who have served, not praising a president who only thinks about himself. Donald Trump doesn’t deserve a parade, but let me tell you about the kind of person who does.

Are we normalizing insanity and brutality again, @npr.org ?

Stoke fear. Exploit desperation. Suspend the rule of law. Fan brutality. Every time the stronger brutalize the weak, it’s fundamentally the same playbook. Our duty is to stand up to brutality. Our moral obligation is to protect the vulnerable and hold the powerful accountable.

A Justice Department legal opinion released Tuesday disavowed a 1938 determination that monuments created by previous presidents under the Antiquities Act can't be revoked.

“Carney didn’t pull punches when calling out what he called the “monetization of American hegemony.” In other words, Trump’s America First foreign policy has become America For Sale. The U.S. no longer underwrites collective defense …it now demands payment, …That’s not an ally. That’s a racket.”

Federal law grants students experiencing homelessness a right to extra support and protections. Advocates say President Trump's proposed budget would strip that law of its power.

When we cancel a contract to develop new medications or vaccines, the world doesn’t sit still anymore. The EU, China, India and others are now capable of taking our place. We will simply pay more to get less.

Repost if you think we shouldn’t -kick families off their health care, -push seniors out of nursing homes, -force children to go hungry, -and blow up the national debt...   ...to pass massive tax giveaways for huge corporations & multi-billionaires who are doing just fine.

The Department of the Interior is requiring the National Park Service to post signage nationwide by June 13, asking visitors for feedback on any information they feel misrepresents American history.
